Nova Liberty Ep4, What does a guitar and an Airgun have in common? (Video)

Hi everybody!

I've just uploaded the 4th video in the series I'm doing for the Nova Liberty. Although this can be applied to any wood stock

Erlis,

Nice! Yeah man, what a Great song!

And yessir, I really enjoyed this one! It's funny you mentioned thinking of my P15..
It's my Only rifle that has a wood stock - As I usually try to Only go with black/synthetic..
Originally, I was going to sand it down, and shoot it with a soft touch black topcoat..
Now you're really making me think about doing something like you did..
But.. Maybe with a bit of a twist..

There's something called "RIT dye" - Usually used to dye cloth / clothing,
but it also works Great for dying other materials - I used to use it for nylon/plastic..

Adding some Black RIT to the mix would surely give a really nice darkened effect..
Either go sparingly and darken more and more with each coat, or,
go big or go home - use a lot, and just shoot for the darkest look possible.. Hmmm...

And Your Scope!! Ah right on man, that's awesome!!

🙂👍

Wow that looks awesome I have been looking for something to use on my liberty that I did not need to sand the whole thing to bare wood. Do you have to use anything on the wood before applying the shellac? Also was that an amber tint or was that the clear?

Thank you for sharing, Great video,

Jim

Hi Jim,

No prep work at all, you can see it on the video, I didn’t even clean it, usually you have to clean the stock really well to remove the oils from fingerprints, but what it is used to clean? Alcohol, and that’s bassically what you are applying here. Remember that I dilute the shellac with a bit more alcohol.

Im using the amber version, I mentioned that in the video. I think I like it better than the clear. I can use the amber version on bare wood and the result is a slight change in color, basically what you expect after applying a varnish, the clear I suspect will just give you shine, for example if I have to work on my guitar, the front is pretty clear, not like other spanish guitars where the front is darker, on my guitar I’ll use the clear version for the front, but also you don’t have to use exactly what I’m using, you can try yourself, ahh also you can layer clear and amber, really easy to do.

Apply a few drops, then polish the material out until shine comes out. If you try this out, share the pictures

Sam, great idea! Also you might try to dip it (is that the right word?) and apply the RIT in a pattern, maybe long lines horizontally with the stock, maybe it will give a nice personality to the rifle. Then this finish on top.

Some people prefer the texture on the finish better than a polished finish, this will polish and will be slick.... you can give it a try and see if it’s for you or not....
