Umarex Notos and a stuck wretched Umarex magazine; seeking help

BACKGROUND:
"Will it still f**k up?" Despite having several Maple Custom hi-cap mags, this morning I went to my gun club early to focus on my Notos which I recently customized with the Huben Dream valve and a big bottle and other accouterments like the Buck Rail stock. I thought I would try one of the original Umarex mags and see if it was still a problem. I set up all my targets including a plywood "table" atop top plastic sawhorses (for the soda cans), and lots of clays attached by rings to the mesh screen 30 yards downrange. Also some in-ground flippers and a four-piece orange "pah-TING".

Loaded the Umarex mag with JTS 14.87 wadcutters. Went to cock the rifle and shoot...well, hoped to shoot. The first pellet (yes, properly inserted into the mag) stuck and refused to budge despite using a cleaning rod to try to get it back into the mag and the cocking handle refused to budge forward. What a mess. (I usually take two or more guns with me to a shooting session but today I only took my Notos as it has been so reliable. My bad. Tomorrow two break barrels and the Diana Bandit for some cocking relief.)

QUESTION:
Can anyone please point me in the direction of a parts diagram or even better, anyone's description of tearing down the thing to try to get at the chamber and dislodge the stuck pellet? Yes, I will search YouTube assiduously in the meantime. I suspect contacting Umarex will be an exercise in futility, right? (Do they even repair stuff?)

Finally, if you know of any fellow air gunner out there who takes in repairs I would be happy to give him or her my business. I don't live too far from Nibs of Walnut & Steel so I will reach out to him as well, although I know he gets way too many contacts to answer them all, alas.

Many thanks.

Posted on Memorial Day. May the memories of our fallen be blessings.

Sorry for your troubles. First thing I did when I got my Notos was throw the oem mag away. To many reports of problems with them to even try one. Have you ever shot wadcutters with your mag before. I have never tried it and only use them in single shot guns. Mark

A wooden dowel is always good for getting a squib round out. Oring picks if you can see it in the chamber. I've never had to go this far on a non pb, but a dowel with a sharp screw point out of the end can be used to attach to the lead and drag it out in the worst of situations.

I had exactly the same problem as yours with my .22 Umarex Zelos with the very first slug I attempted to chamber from the factory magazine; that being shot number 11 of the 20 shot mag following 10 pellets that chambered fine. Rather than destroying the new gun, I contacted Umarex. Their phone rep very much wanted to void my warranty, several times warning me that would be the case if I attempted to correct the problem myself.

Took me a couple hours to modify the original box to accept and PROTECT the Zelos with the side lever stuck in the open position; meaning I shipped it cocked and loaded. They didn't repair the rifle; rather, sent a new one.

I've used Maple mags ever since, and abandoned trying slugs in the Zelos.

Hopefully if Umarex is forced to EAT enough guns due to their crappy magazines they'll (eventually) stop using such garbage mags. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd suggest to PM @Firewalker and ask about his barrel rework offerings. Really happy with what he did for mine at a very reasonable price. The noise level dropped even more and having a threaded barrel is awesome!

Sounds like you have a pellet stuck half in the mag, half in the barrel. Then your mag advanced between pellet cavities so you can’t even push probe in. Mag is stuck also right?I’ve had it happen on a Prod myself.

So you can either try to loosen barrel. Should slide forward on a notos? Giving you enough room to remove mag and stuck pellet. Or what some guys do it get a dowel and tap magazine out. The lead is soft enough and will smash as you tap magazine out. That’s your options on a Marauders. Maybe this might help on your Notos.

Good luck.

Yepper, two screws and slide it forward. Be careful with the o-rings and be sure the indentation on the barrel is in the correct location for the grub screw when reinstalling.

Edit: Be SURE to use good quality hex wrenches (no ball end) when working with these two screws. I use MRP brand from my RC box. Also, if you can find better replacements for the screws, do so as they are soft metal.

Good to know for the next guy. I use to have it happen on my prod If accidentally didn’t cock all the way. If I got lucky I could just double load and fire.

Thanks to all for your help. Much appreciated. I will try to remove the barrel and see if I can clear the stuck pellet. Umarex did respond to an email form I completed on their website and invited me to call and “speak to a gunsmith.” I’d rather try your suggestions first. I no longer have the Notos‘ box, and it is at least a year out of warranty.

Who made that excellent barrel/bottle band and bipod attachment for you? I need something just like it for my shorter, fatter bottle!
