Not anyone but few who are known for their work quality making shrouds...

Thought about asking this earlier but it was not that important and now wondering if any of you guys knows or has had experience having your shrouds custom made. I have one on hand and thinking of having the second one custom made to the same specs as the original. One thing is that the OD is somewhat smaller compared to regulars due to OD of the barrel being slightly thinner. There are better options out there as for material in terms of strength and lightness and it would make a great difference to have it done by the right smith handling this and possibly few more in future. Appreciate your inputs.

I have made a few shrouds, they can be as effective as a longer moderator of larger Dia. My material of choice is carbon fibre, light, strong and IMO it looks good. The only negative is that it is brittle, a knock or sharp object can cause a minute split that goes unnoticed until you pull the trigger and the shroud splits open like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. For high power big calibre guns I would recommend thin wall aluminium tube

here is a couple of shrouds I made

Allen Z (AZ) makes the absolute best and quietest shrouds bar none but you need to send your gun to him as his is specific to your gun and caliber only. Absolutely NOTHING is quieter than his so you think your guns out of air when you shoot it, that's how quiet his REALLY are. Just have to be very patient but you get the best. Good things come to those who wait.

Only bad thing it's too quiet you tend to get complacent since it's still your same powerful shooting gun don't get careless thinking you are only shooting a Daisy 880 or a Crosman 2100 or 760 pumpmaster just because it sounds like them with only 1 or 2 pumps.

Odoyle 🙄

you are messing with my head and my wallet now!! — You are making me wonder what I can do to get such a Holy Grail Shroud...?!! 👍🏼😊

That it makes basically no sound — that simply sounds AMAZING!!! 😄

Extremely cool!

Thanks for sharing.

If you have any contact info on Allen Z., please pass it along — I'd love to include him on my Silencer Specs Table.

Bucketboy, Those look good but maybe not as thin as the one I m going to have it made. I will keep looking and will aslo post some picss and dimensions later for a rerference.

If you want your gun to be quiet then volume within the shroud is the key, less than 25mm and the volume will not be sufficient to take the bark out of a pcp. . While I realise that it’s not always possible to fit larger Dia shroud there are a couple of things that may help. A 2 stage shroud where the Dia increases once it passes the buddy bottle or air tube will obviously help, or more difficult to make, a shroud that is offset to the barrel.

This is a simple 2 stage shroud/ mod I made

The fat shroud is necessary for it to be really quiet. AZ has my .30 Crown right now and he’s converting it into a absolutely quiet .20 cal. He is going to be putting a series of tiny holes in the rear underside of the shroud to help get rid of the air blast. I have three of his shrouds on guns and they are awesome. He showed me his quietest gun when I visited him and it was incredible. There was absolutely no air blast sound whatsoever, just the mechanical noise of the rifle parts. That’s what I’m after, this is going to be my dream rifle. He said that the Crown is a great rifle to convert into a hot small caliber. I’ll be sure and post about the gun as soon as I can! Here’s the AZ shrouded guns I’m lucky enough to have. The quietest one is on the Steyr, it just goes ping! And sounds like a malfunction lol.

Just came across this post dated this past July. PM the poster hoping to get some traction.

There used to be more useful info from digging deeper in google search engine to know bu who and where these mods were done. Again we re talking about the shroud that some skilled people like DaveG custom stock and couple of others that also were doing exceptional job customizing those shrouds. I m going to look further and search more hoping to find the maker who could or did the shroud found in the link above. Later

Matt, here's what I found on the mysterious "AZ".....

11173 West Vogel Road
Worley ID 83876

319 327 4303

Apparently he doesn't go to any great rush to return calls because he is so busy, but the word is he will contact you eventually.

I can't guarantee the accuracy of the above info, but it was all I could find.

Regards,

Senile but still trying to help...

Kindly 'Ol Uncle Hoot

😊 Well, thank you, Uncle Hoot! 👍🏼

🔶 A comment about senile:

▪This is not like a light switch:

ON—OFF = Senile—NotSenile

▪It's more like a dimmer:

FullySenile—LargelySenile—HalfSenile—ALittleSenile

➔ It's a continuum, and we are all on one side of it — moving unstoppably to the other side....

We all are.... 2 examples:

(1) Went pigeoning today, and didn't secure the lid of a can of Polymags with tape.... With my driving style they went flying all over the place....

(2) Poymags and JSBs for decades have not had screw-on lids like the H&Ns.

With my case rested, I go to rest now. Because I spent 10 hours in the sun, shot 100 pigeons and 2 vultures, and I'm feeling pretty good about myself.

That feeling is of course part of being senile — it makes you forget you're senile.
