Spotted a squirrel in the back yard so I grabbed my D34 and sneaked out through the sunroom to the back deck and put my scope on him at only 12 yards. Just as I squeezed the trigger he moved along, they don't sit still very long. Missed him and now he knows I'm there. Runs up a tall oak. I'm scoping him but he keeps on going up and then takes an unbelievable leap to some very thin branches in another oak about 10 yards further back. He's swinging wildly and almost didn't make it but somehow managed to hang on. Then he climbs down a bit and sits in a nice solid notch about 40' up. His back is to me but he's positioned slightly left. I've got very little clearance through some other branches of closer tree's but it looks good so I take the shot from 31 yards direct, 25 degree up angle. Perfect hit right under his left front leg. He falls 40', kicks his legs for a few seconds and he's done. Red circle shows the location.

Yes, when you have those skinny little twigs of other trees in your path, you have to remember that your pellet path and sight line through the scope are different but I was sure I had clearance for the pellet trajectory. Also if you totally miss shooting at that angle, the pellet could travel 300-400 yards before hitting the ground but I was 100% confident that my pellet wasn't going past that tree in this case.

I really enjoyed the detail in which you told your story. I have loved squirrel hunting since I was a child....LONG time. I could feel the excitement in your telling it. Great shot you made and you have a very beautiful property there it seems. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't got to use my D34 on any game yet. Just targets.....hope to get in the woods Friday after Thanksgiving with it.
