I have a Nikon Prostaff 5 3-12×42 with BDC I am considering mounting on a tuned 12 ft lbs springer, HW98 for HFT. I plan to dial it in and leave it set once zeroed. Does anyone know if these scopes will hold up to use on a springer?
Nikon stopped selling scopes a couple of years ago, so no warranty replacements. I’ve had scopes that were springer rated fail. I wouldn’t risk the scope.
I have the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire with BDC in 3x9-40 but have never heard that they will withstand being mounted on a springer. I also have a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR. I have heard the Prostaff EFR version will withstand the recoil of a springer. I mounted mine on an HW 30 springer. Haven't had any major issues in a few thousand shots, other than needing a click or two once every 3 sessions or so.
I don't know if that's a big deal or not but I'm running it.
I really love the Prostaff Rimfire BDC reticle for plinking at long range. But to answer your question.. I don't know if it will hold up to a springer.
Thanks for posting this question I will also be watching for a 1st hand answer.
That Nikon scope ,Target EFR was a sleeper,I have one mounted on a PCP,at one time they were one of the better deal scopes......until too many people found out and the price has almost doubled on them.
