Night shooting in California

Not sure if night hunting is legal in CA, but you can likely get an answer here: https://wildlife.ca.gov/regulations

Airgun dealers are very scarce in LA county. I have dealt with Steve at Pomona Airguns and that was a good experience. He is has a lot of experience. Only catch is that he is located up in the Hesperia area, so not exactly close to LA. Joe Brancato is located in Huntington Beach and he is an FX dealer and carries other brands. I’ve also had good experiences with him. http://www.airtanksforsale.com/

Mac One airguns is another option, but I think they are largely a repair and custom shop. Not sure what, if any, brands they carry.

Good luck

If you going to hunt at all in any state please do your own homework and thoroughly study the laws. In California it’s especially challenging because the multiple layers of laws around hunting. But night hunting of any game animal is prohibited! Depends on the area you might get exemption for coyote but better check with or better call your local warden before you get yourself in deep trouble or worse, shot.

Steve of Pomona AG and Joe B. are both great folks to do business with. Steve's shop is off the beaten path but well worth the drive...I've done it and Joe's shop is in an industrial complex block.

California laws in short state that you can not have a NV or Thermal scope mounted on your gun. Binos and monoculars have no restrictions. Hunting at night is illegal in CA. Reason why most large online sellers will not ship to California. However there are some exceptions, you can find some small independent online sellers and eBay as a work around to obtain gear.

Shooting at night depends on the county, many do not have hour restrictions on the books.

It looks as though the law specifically states use on a firearm of a scope using an infrared illumination device is not allowed. You’d need to find the exact code to get a better feel. Any scope with a built in IR system would be a NO. The actual code might say adaptable for use on a firearm so even if you used it on an airgun you’d not be legal. It may be you can use NV that does not use IR…idk

OpticsPlanet and Amazon won’t ship any NV to CA.

Built in IR illuminator is a no on firearms, this is firearm specific law. If you own firearms then this would be a big no no and don't chance it. Supposedly if a NV scope that does NOT have BUILT IN IR illuminators then it could be ok but do your own research. This is why ATN shipped a scope to me directly, it has a clamped on IR illuminator. Amazon won't ship any NV stuff to CA but OpticsPlant also shipped an ATN to me but maybe they changed their policy recently.

Either way in CA if you own firearms do extra research and call the sherif to confirm. If you only have airguns get an ATN to be on the safe side but keep it stealthy and your backyard only. If you play call of duty anywhere else you will likely go to jail or worse, get shot. simply having both a firearm and night vision scope could land you in trouble as it's not something police deal with all the time.

Be safe!
