Nice to be missed...

Went down to the local dairy to see what I might. And saw that the pigeons were back. Last time I was there was six weeks ago. Shot and kill 10 pigeons, 3 starlings and 4 sparrows. The shots were from 40 to 60 yards. Very satisfying to take the sparrows at 50. I missed quite a few shots as it was windy. Took two pigeons off the peak of the low structure at 54 yards while the owner was looking. He wanted me to take out a white pigeon at 60, but I could see through my scope that it had a leg band on so I passed on it. It became my live decoy bringing birds back to the roof. The owner was glad I was back... the carcasses all went to the four new cats that arrived at the dairy today.

My rig is a .22 Compatto, with a 5.5x25x50 Aztec Emerald FFP, sending 18 grain JSB Exacts at 850 FPS

Nice report there Luis! It is nice to be missed.

I sure am envious of your being able to hunt pests. I have my eye on a dairy that I’m thinking about approaching and offering my services. This would be a first for me. Your pesting posts are part of what has encouraged me to take a leap forward and look into finding some dairies around here.

Any advice on how I might go about approaching the dairy to see if they would like to try out what I am offering?

@greenarrow, the dairy you’ve been scouting must have pests. Simply approach the owner, introduced yourself, who you are, are you local, live nearby? Member of any community organizations or Sportsman’s Club, anything pertinent to subject at hand (pesting).

Conversation might go something like... “I see you have a lot of pest birds on your property, I do pest control as a hobby would you give me permission to eliminate pests on your property?” All owners are concerned with damage to their property or harm to their livestock. Have pellets handy to show the owner what it is your shooting. Explain that you are a safe shooter and are aware of his/her concerns. Be prepared to show your skills. Sometimes you have to ask more than once, don’t be discouraged. Once you get that first permission, than you can use them as a reference to acquire additional permissions. Good luck.

Excellent! Thank you very much. Good words to go by.
