Nice groups with my PCP .177 at 30 yards.....looks like hell at 50 Yards.......

I just have an entry level Diana rifle. I've been shooting at 30 yards since I got it. The gun will do 1/2 inch, 5 shot groups.

This weekend, I moved out to 50 yards. Very disappointing. Such a mess, I didn't even bother to measure. My gun is unregulated and I'm using 7.7 grain wad cutters.

Is the pellet too light ? Any tips ?

Wadcutters are designed for 10 meter shooting. Try a domed pellet such as JSB Exact 8.44gr and see if your groups tighten. Good luck.

I agree with Bayou...definitely want to be using domed pellets past 30 yards.

Just wanted to say if you plan on doing any pest control (chipmunks, squirrels, etc.), I would set aside those wadcutters. Finding another batch that will deliver 1/2” groups at 30 yards won’t be easy, and a wadcutter is devastating on small pests so you might want to save them.

I appreciate that information. I think I've tried every other type of pellet at 30 yards (only the wad cutters were shooting well at 30) , except domed. Last weekend was my first attempt at a greater distance.

BTW, I'd also suggest trying the JSB Heavy 10.34gr pellets. You may find they group better than the 8.44's, depending on your rifle's power. It's best to keep FPS below 900 fps for most consistent accuracy.
