Newbie Needing Some Advice On Choosing A Top Shelf .25 Bullpup

This will be my second PCP gun. I’ve had a 2nd gen. Benjamin Marauder in .177 that has been a flawless performer for me at 50 yards for the last couple of years, usually producing dime size groups if I do my part, to the peril of many a squirrel.

Now, i’ve been having a bad raccoon problem in my backyard, to the extent of them causing severe damage to bird feeders, I want to kill them quickly and ethically, and imho .177 is not the round to go with, and have decided to go with a .25 PCP Bullpup.

Here is a sampling of the guns that i’ve been looking at:

- FX MKIII Sniper

- Brocock XR Sniper Magnum

- Taipan Veteran Long

- Hatsan Bullboss

- Uragan 

And of course, it needs to be the most accurate and reliable in performance. I’m not one to really tinker around too much with tuning. It will be zeroed at 50 yards, the distance to the feeder. I also plan on taking the gun to shoot wild boar from time to time as well, so the higher the FPE, the better.

I'd throw the Edgun R5M in your list - a great gun if you're not in to tinkering, or if you are...

Just throwing in a wild card...... the Walther Reign has a 23.6 long barrel which is [I believe] longer than anything you listed except the Wildcat Sniper. The power specs seem really impressive. I would swap the Reign onto your list for the Bullboss as the budget choice. On PA you can use the "nation20" code for 10% off too.

I've had a Bantam, nice rifle, but the trigger doesn't compare to the Veteran, and the mag operation in mine compromised accuracy. And it's not a BP.

I would choose a 30 caliber Uragan long based in your power and ethical 50 yard needs. I would rather go with a 9mm/357 caliber airgun for boars at 50 yards.

I would contact Derrick zx10wall and ask what he thinks since its hogs at 50 yards and you need the power.

OH THAT'S RIGHT! A 30 caliber Daystate Renegade HP (unregulated higher power 80 for version). You get 12-13 or so dead on shots even if they say 18 shots. Not the Pulsar HP not enough power.

I believe that you can not go wrong with any of your first choices, but just to expand on the choices I agree with GeneT the Edgun r5m is a robust gun that is easy to work on and or adjust to your own liking. The gun is made in a harsh environment meaning the extreme cold environment and I do have an Edgun r5m 22cal and it’s a true work horse.

I have a racoon issue here too and have been using .22 nsa 20.2 slugs at 870ish fps. The 22 is getting it done, but I want to hit them harder.

In addition to the ones on your list my list has the prophet and dreampup bottle in 25 or 30. I had the Reign on there for a bit, but the lack of adjustments, the smallish bottle and the ring they used to mount the silencer turned me off. (not interested in grinding or cutting off the stock one)

I keep changing my mind on what to get day to day. Maybe by the time I have decided things will be back in stock.

I'd throw in the kalibrgun cricket in .25.... Stock gun can make 55 fpe. In addition you could get a power tuned one from Charlie Frear at Georgia airguns. He is away grow the shop for a while, but you could always order a cricket and send to Charlie to tune later.

If you have the time and money, the .308 American Air Arms would be perfect. I dont hear much about them anymore but everyone gives the .308 high reviews. The AAA .308 won the big bore competition years ago

I've got a wc3 .25 sniper, and it will put out 72fpe at the top end (I keep it around 63fpe for 2 mags). It has a power plenum on it.

Pushing some 38gr AVS slugs along at decent speeds for those two power levels, its cloverleafs at 50 yards.

I'm not sure if the other guns in your list will hit that power level without more intrusive modding/tinkering/tuning. They might and I just don't know, but the above is my experience with the wc3.

I've had a Brocock and they're nice but I prefer the Wildcat. There's also the gorilla in the room if you consider the Impact a bullpup. Its probably the best, but expensive.

Now, who are the best dealers to work with? I’ve been perusing most of the big dealers, like PA, AOA, Airgundepot, and a few others like Utah Airguns, Georgia Airguns,etc.



Also, there are two non-Bullpup rifles that i’ve been looking at as well; the Daystate Wolverine R HP and the RAW HM1000X.



So many seemingly great choices to choose from too.

One more requirement. It has to be “backyard friendly”, not overtly loud or having too much power; I.e. 30 caliber projectiles, so i’m limiting the caliber to .25, but I do appreciate those recommendations as well. A .3x caliber weapon would be more ideal for hog hunting, but i’ve got that covered already with other firearms.

Skip the .25 pellets gun and find a slug shooter in .22. I great prefer slugs in .22 over .25 pellets. Flatter trajectory, expansive HP, ability to shoot with a faster velocity, and wind holds are easier.
