Newbie intro

Hi, newbie here. I've had a Beeman R1 since 1983, but got my first PCP August 26. I got a 22 caliber Dreamline Classic with the walnut stock, Donny FL moderator and a Power Plenum from Ken at S.P.A.W. Ken set it up for JSB Hades at 892 fps. I've mounted a Burris Signature HD 3-15x44 scope in Burris high rings on it. That's been my only real problem. Using Burris high rings the scope is much too low for the factory magazine. I got a CARM mini magazine (12 shot 3d printed plastic) it also hits the bottom of the scope. There is just enough contact that the CARM magazine binds up and won't advance after every shot.

So far i've tried Crossman Piranha, H&N Hunters, H&N Hunter Extreme, JSB Hades and FX Hybrids. Last weekend I managed to shoot at 30 yards, 40 yards and 50 yards. The only thing conclusive in my testing is the Crossman are good to 20 yards, after that they really spread out.

Last night I tried the H&N slugs, only 17.5 yards (the maximum range in my basement) but the results are promising.

Today could shoot out to 25 yards.

Hey,Welcome to AGN. I got the Classic in 22cal walnut too.I love mine. 1 of the 1st ones in the country. Great great rifle.Mine came with sportsmatch rings.I assume (HIGH).I would be suspect of the groups your getting until u can use the FX magazine or a single shot tray..Get some JSB or AirArms 18gr pellets. Groups will get unbelievably better. The rifle was ( I believe ) set-up by FX to shoot these best. I have a ?. What length is your barrel? 600mm? Standard 22cal classics have 500mm barrels. The reason I ask is I don't c how a power plenum can fit on a stock 22cal classic. Otherwise I'd get 1. Am I missing something? Things do tend to just swoosh right over my head. So I'm hoping I'm not seeing the obvious.

Thanks for the nice welcome, With all the restrictions from Covid19 this year I’ve spent way too much time on the internet, especially watching YouTube videos. I discovered a whole new world of PCP Airguns I’d never heard of or seen before. I live in a suburban neighborhood that isn’t compatible with shooting firearms. I’ve had a springer for years and shot it sparingly, but the PCP is a revelation - quiet, multiple shots, accurate and a lot lighter (Dreamline vs Beeman R1). Three pounds is a huge difference.

The Dreamline Classic appealed to my since of aesthetics. The impacts are awesome but too heavy and too industrial / tactical styling for my taste. Mine is a 22 and came with the standard 500mm length barrel. I talked with Ken at SPAW before I bought it to confirm the Power Plenum would fit with the standard barrel and moderator. He said it would and installed it, and set the gun up to shoot Hades before shipping it to me. I thought the Dreamline was a great intro to PCP’s not as powerful, heavy or as expensive as an Impact but highly capable in its own right.

So far I’m having a lot of fun. The accuracy is impressive. It will easily hit grapes at 30 yards; the Hades, Hunter and Hunter Ex pellets all hit with a loud pop and turn a grape into instant juice. Juvenile perhaps, but it’s a hoot. I’m anxious to take it squirrel hunting.
