Newbie help needed: pumps, tanks, etc.

Airgun newbie here. I will soon have a Hatsan Blitz and FX Maverick - what can I use to fill these? Can I use a hand pump? If so can I use a a bicycle pump or is something special needed? I’ve been reading a bit about compressors and what about a Yong Heng? What kind of fittings would I need to use this on my rifles?

Thanks,

Tom

CANNOT use a bicycle pump. You need a high pressure airgun hand pump but I hear it gets old real fast. Get a compressor & SCBA (carbon fiber) tank. Or, just a tank if there's a 4500psi fill source near you. PLENTY of past posts on this forum regarding this. Good luck, stay safe & shoot straight!

(Don't know why this posted twice!)

You can use a HPA PCP hand pump with a decent filter for a reasonable cost and look like THIS after pumping bottle guns for a while especially that Hatsan Blitz.

Ok, thanks! I will get a high pressure hand pump too and see how long it takes before I get sick of it :)

Lou! Love the Hulk :)

If you are young and fit, you may find that a hand pump is just a good work out. Then again, you don't HAVE to shoot an AG down to when the regulator drops off or the shot string gets too far off if not regulated. If unregulated, find the sweet spot and pump according to that. If it is regulated, shoot until the pressure drops enough that it will take less than ~50 pumps to get it back to full.

I think too much emphasis is placed on shot count when most of the time, for me (pesting) , I only take up to 5 shots in a day and usually less. So, I fill the gun back up to optimal pressure with a hand pump long before it takes me more than about 30 pumps to get there. Easy! (grin)

If you are going to shoot LOTS of pellets in a session or a day, then you might want to consider a compressor. However, you are now talking about a LOT of money aside from the AG itself and the maintenance, etc.

My advice is to use a hand pump as long as you can! Here is what I have 2 of. One is a spare.

JFYI. the original one I bought via Amazon is still my main pump. The one I bought (same Vevor brand) from Walmart has scuffs and scratches on the larger main tube. It works, but I have my doubts about how long it will be before I have to do a full O-ring replacement on it. It is a spare... (sigh)

BTW, I am over 60 and pumping up to 200 strokes or a lot more is not a problem, although I do give the pump (and myself) a rest after about 50 strokes to let the pump cool down. I could to the entire 200 strokes( or more) without stopping otherwise and I have smoked cigarettes for over 45 years. So... (chuckle)

Buy the Walmart one and PAY for the maximum years protection plan that way you get a FREE spare after the first one craps out.

I didn't buy the extended warranty plan. However, considering the cost $7.82, for 3 years that may be a good idea. It all depends on how the "extension" works. I have seen "warranty extensions" that don't actually add X years to the existing warranty, but in fact only come into effect AFTER the original warranty has expired, but include the original warranty time as part of the, lets say 3 year extension. So you actually only get one extra year of warranty and not 2 or 3 as most people THINK they are getting.

JFYI, read the original and extended warranty contract VERY carefully before paying for the extension.

Most of the time, an extended warranty is not worth the price when compared to the price of the product.
