Actually after a few hours of research, I discovered that carbon fiber is put into a vacuum while made. They bond it with what is essentially 2 part epoxy. Jb weld plastic epoxy has a 4500 psi tensile strength and is safe for carbon fiber. I have been using that to secure the shroud of my hammer since this post. I shoot it pretty often, and thus far, no issues
Totally tore down my hammer. That is a fricking complicated piece of air cannon. The shroud was loose, so I used 2 part epoxy. Worked like science. Yes, they need to be built to a higher standard. Why would they use a carbon fiber tube for an outer barrel on a hunting rifle?
Ya, but the loose tank issue, on mine, was actually not very noticeable before it got knocked. Afterwards, it wobbled WHILE at 4500psi. Which obviously freaked me out. So I stripped it down. Complicated airgun. To say the least. Doesn't have any structural damage, and even used a lighted 60x magnifier to make sure. Hairlines will hurt you at that pressure I'm pretty sure. Don't want to find out. I've had it put back together since I posted this originally. I want to say also, I know heat in large quantities is bad for carbon fiber. I also know that some kind of protection from the sun, as well as very minor bumps while in the woods, is a good thing. 5 years ago or so, whenever it was that I bought this, I got some heat shrink tubing. The kind without glue, because I know that can corrode the carbon fiber as well. I did the entire shroud. I had to sand out the tank and barrel housing on the barrel side to get it to fit with the new thickness. Still goes on tight, but not too tight. The gun is a beast. Even with the tank being a bit wobbly and not quite seating tightly, it's still a cannon.Called Umarex and spoke with three different people who said they were techs.. They all told me that Umarex guns like the Hammer come with a loose, wobbly bottle, that turns. That this is completely normal and that filling up the bottle will remedy the problem by causing the bottle to "seat"...
I have a separate specific question for you. I have come up with a shroud protector design for the hammer. Mounts on both ends. I can't afford a patent and don't have the time for prototypes. I carry my hammer literally every day and have for five years. I live in the mountains. I was certified in AutoCAD in 2003, and although they use a different program for CNC machines now, I'm familiar enough with the old software to know the measurements needed. I know this gun pretty well, and I have the exact measurements and thicknesses sketched out nicely. I was wondering how to go about approaching someone at Umarex with this design without getting got for my work?
I bled it, and stripped it(gently of course). I used 2 part epoxy to secure the shroud again on the chamber end, and since this post, with a few dozen pellets through it, all is well. The tank is still a tidbit loose, but even after examining it with a 60x magnifier, I couldnt find and hairlines where it's secured. I didn't mess with anything to do with the tank. It seemed serious to mess with the tank mount, judging by the threat of the warranty being voided. Just looked, is all. They being said, it's still slightly movable at 4500 psi. But no issues. I vice fired it the first time. Hasnt gotten worse and no damage. Checked it periodically since then.

Also, I wanted to add, that so far everything that I've read tells me that nobody can figure out how to mount an shroud protector for the hammer. Considering the recent issue that I had with mine, this protector would save time, repairs, and possibly injuries to people using it. I figured out how to mount the shroud protector, not one, but two different ways. It's no different than an AR-15 shroud, except that it would protect the outer carbon fiber barrel. Could even engrave it with words, art, whatever. I was a tattoo artist by trade for 15 years, and knowing AutoCAD and what a CNC machine can do, I know for a fact there's some cool art that can be put on one. Regardless, this is a serious upgrade/mod/add-on that I believe Umarex would be all over. I just don't know who to contact, or how to go about it without losing my idea to them for free. I'm not really versed in this type of thing. But I know for a fact this is a valid and needed part. Especially considering there aren't many mods for the hammer. Honestly it doesn't need many, but this one I think it does.
