New Topic but same Carette problem.

I received the 1st stage head gaskets and new pump from California buy honestly the pump looked used. Maybe it was just from sitting? Since the relief valve looked lie someone already had it out by the looks of the wrench marks around the nut you unscrew with a wrench to remove it. I decided to swap the relief valve out before I started to change the pump. When I got nut off the valve poppet was pointing towards the nut and not towards into the water pump where it is suppost to go based on how I first removed mine. I got to thinking that maybe I put mine in wrong so I took my poppet out and turned it around. Filled it up with distilled water and started it up. It ran a maybe a minute and blew the clear neopreme tube going from the second stage and into the radiator. It blew coolant everywhere. Ok maybe the tube had a weak spot so I replaced the hose with a new one and filled it up again. Started it up and this time I left the Oil separator opened a little. Again time the same hose burst again but in the middle of the new line I just replaced. It blew just as I was noticing more air in the hose the coolant. When I shut the power off to the compressor it blew almost at the same time. Ok, so maybe that relief valve did go the way I had it in. Instead of using my old one I took the relief valve off the one that came from the west coast. I installed it with the poppet head in to the water pump and filled it again with water just after I replaced the new water line again. When I fired it up this time again the water seemed to be disappearing in the water line and just before I shot it off again the relief valve open up and started spewing water like it did with my old relief valve. What would you guys do next? Because it doesn't seem to be holding water where is it running? In tipped it back to try to get the air out of the line but that didn't help much. When the compressor was running and it didn't heat up to over 50 C either time I ran it. It sounds normal and the pressure was building normally before the last relief valve spew.

Thanks, Bill

The dealer didn't have the water pump in stock so he said he would take it off another new one or at least that is what I thought he said. I will say that water pump is a SOB to get off. It is right beside the oil/water separator and you need a cresent wrench with a 2" max opening to get on to the two flats on the water pump to remove it. I think you really need a special tool to get it off and getting to the pumps wiring is another difficulty. Bosunhu sent me a video that requires taking the top of the first stage off to do some cleaning. Will try that next. I purchased 2 gaskets for the 1st stage disassembly. A 40" air hose that goes from the oil water separator to the bottom of the Alpha Filter and the water pump. Total cost including shipping was about $214.00 Now I'm hoping I don't need it just because of having to remove the old one. If I have to I think I will have a friend that is a machinist make me a tool to get it off. Just isn't enough room for a monkey wrench with a 2 jaws to get to it. Candy grippers may do it but turning it with them isn't going to be pretty.

Actually the the water pump itself wasn't to buggered up that' why I think a special wrench was used. There was marks near where it looks like they removed the relief valve from the bottom of the water pump, and like I said earlier the V shaped poppet with o ring was facing in the direction of the brass nut you remove to get to the poppet. I don't think That is the way it should be installed. I had two tubes burst when I reinstalled my relieve valve poppet that way. Turned it around a it still spews water out like I believe it was designed to do. When I get to watching the video a couple more times I'm going to venture into the top of the 1st stage where the collant enters and departs. By the way the water flows through the clear tubing I think there might be a obstruction.

This message is for bosun hu. This video was what we need on here but I wished the gentlemen doing the fix was speaking during the process and in English. The video seems to be a new or earlier version of the Carette I own because the 1st stage is different . Please se pic below. Also the top part of the Ist stage that was removed by loosening a set screw with a 1.5 mm hex wrench. I took the set screw all the way out and still could not lift that part off. Is it possible you can give me a part source for the relief valve on the bottom of the water pump? Thank you, Bill
