Umarex New to PCP and Modding, Looking for Guidance on the Notos

I’ve been digging through the forum and found a ton of great info on mods. I’m new to PCPs and picked up a Notos with plans to start modding it later on, but I didn’t realize how deep this rabbit hole goes……

I’m trying to wrap my head around how everything works and how the different parts interact. Every day I’m learning a bit more, but right now I feel like I’m missing a clear-cut guide that explains how the system functions overall.

Does anyone have any beginner-friendly threads, diagrams, YouTube videos, or build logs that helped you when you were starting out? I saw that @Firewalker managed higher velocities using FX barrel liners without porting and a few others have put together some impressive builds (regs, bottles, plenums, etc) with the Notos. That’s the kind of stuff I’m trying to understand better.

Also, what are some common mistakes or “no-no’s” that might not be obvious to someone new to all this?

I’d appreciate any advice, resources, or even a quick PM if you’ve got time to help a newcomer out. Just trying to soak it all in without getting lost. Thanks in advance

If it helps, here’s an example build I did 10 years ago when my understanding of things was slightly better than a grunting caveman, “Mmmm, me make air holes bigger, go more pressure, hit valve hard”.

If not, it was at least a stroll down memory lane for me :)

No petroleum in the high pressure side, no oil etc... Hpa Silicone is your lube now. Think of pcp as working like a pump gun with modern tech improvements... Sorta.
Glad you mentioned this I definitely didn't know this. Any brands you recommend? I heard some people use silicone dive grease on O-rings. I did see a lot of people using Ballistol for cleaning purposes on the barrel. I know its a mineral based formula not petroleum. I am going to add, look up proper cleaning techniques, to the list lol

Wow, that is alot of machine work for sure. It definitely helps me understand how things are working though. Pretty creative way of making it happen too.

I use micro-lubrol silicone lube off Amazon and silicone dive grease. Some will disagree with me in this part but I clean my bores with breakfree clp and patch or cleaning pellet them dry.

You just don't want a diesel incident. Inside a pressure vessel it could technically explode, in the bore it could diesel and put unneeded stress on stuff. I don't clean my barrels on air rifles till accuracy falls off tho and haven't had an incident with bore dieseling ever on my pcp, pump, or co2(for obvious reasons there).

I've learned to store my guns 1/2-3/4 fully charged to keep orings seated nicely.

The other wisdom I have is don't become fixated on certain numbers for velocity or power. The tune that shoots as close to exactly the same every time is the winner. This took me a mere 15 years to come to terms with. It also made my guns typically quieter and lest wasteful on air when I wasn't chasing peak velocity and fpe(foot pounds energy)

If you have any more questions and want to dm I'm happy to give my opinions on it. I don't own a umarex yet in my collection tho to be transparent. My friend, user perle does tho.

That makes alot of sense with the tune. I can see how it would be easy to chase numbers. I did that with some rimfires chasing ES and SD numbers.

Bro.... That's how I started 30 years ago. What you bought is a ruger 10/22 so to speak. Full of potential, highly modifiable, affordable. It's the most expensive budget gun you'll probably ever buy 😁 Mines only got 1 ruger part left. The one with a serial 😅 my fx impact is 50% changed too...... A mistake in hindsight.

I bought this gun knowing I would probably go down the rabbit hole. The more I'm reading the more I think I made the right choice with this rifle. Thanks to all who have posted stuff about it because it made my choice easier.

That seems to be what I’m seeing on here. Well I guess after I thin these squirrels out some and save a little more I will finish some upgrades.
It doesn't take too much for squirrels so it doesn't have to be a money pit.

I shoot groundsquirrels with a 14 fpe 177 benjamin discovery.... In the face. The fx power guns stay home.
