HW/Weihrauch New to me HW80SL .177

Got a new toy in on Monday and am just now getting around to playing with it. So far I am definitely liking it although it is a bit lower powered than the seller had made it out to be (probably for the best lol). Either way the shot cycle is pretty tame for what it is.

He he had deleted the factory sights and added a pretty slick looking muzzle brake which IMO is a nice touch to an already nice gun. It is looooong though. I'm still figuring out my holds for it but so far so good. The seller was also nice enough to throw in a Bushnell 4-12x for me which I'm really liking. Sometimes a nice simple duplex reticle is a nice break from all the dirty reticles I'm typically fond of.

Anyway, here are some pictures!

First attempts at some 50yd groups. I was playing with the scope and stock torque so things did seem to move on my a bit. Gotta figure out what she likes somehow!

Hey Sqwirl,
Looks like pretty normal velocity for a .177 cal. HW80 - about 16FPE.
You can get more FPE from .20 or .22, but that's neither here nor there.

I hold my .177 and .20 HW80SLK and HW80S very gentle, with off hand just in front to the trigger guard ... works for me.
My HW80S in .20 is a magnificent shooter whereas the .177 is about where U are at 50 yards. IMHO, the .177 is more difficult to shoot.

I was shooting JSB 10.34 and 13.43 grain pellets .... I don't think I've found the best pellet for the gun yet  .

Gun looks good and i like that new style stock .. wish they do the 95 with somthing nicer .. i figure the old standard stock been discontinued and somthing other the just luxus ..

Ya, i was a bit surprised at that 815 in .177 then thought must be heavey pellets but just still 10 g .. id think 850+ 10g ?

I imagine a little tlc tune would fix that like maybe the seal too tight ..

I would love a .20 cal barrel for this gun. It really does seem like the perfect powerplant to power ratio here. Gonna keep my eyes peeled!

I'm finding a lighter hold definitely helps and ditching the rear bag made a pretty significant difference too. My 35 yd groups with a rear bag looked closer to these 50yd groups than I care to admit.

I'm definitely a fan of the new stocks too. I put off getting the older 80 because they had too much of a workhorse look to them. I may pop the gun open at some point but I think I'll probably just leave here alone for now and just learn how to shoot it. Of course I say that now but one day I'll get bored and it'll happen.

Ya, id probly just dhoot it out as is .. save that for a better rain day to do job.. its not like critical ..

Anyway looks good 😉. Enjoy

P.s...

Thinking seems there been a few guys saying there newer hw been under spec. Hmmmmm...
This actually seems about to spec to me in .177 with heavy pellets. The owner had made it seem like it was throwing these 10.6s at 865fps for almost 18ftlbs. I assumed he had been in there himself. Maybe he was dieseling a bit when he chronoed the gun? It definitely feels like someone has been in here though. Theres practically no buzz at all which hasn't been my experience with any other factory HW

I d k .. could be the pellet . Another brand/type 10.5 could shoot faster or slower. It aint like ot dropped to 780 or somthing ..lol . Id be good with it hitting as you show above anyway ..
Yeah thats my thoughts too. I'm going to do some more pellet testing probably this weekend. I want to see how those new Benjamin pellets do at some point too. I've been reading a lot of good things about them

Anyway id like to see them benji results vs the rest in a unbiased not a sales pitch testing..

I ordered a few tins off the Benjamin website so we'll see. I can't imagine they're worth what they charge for them but who knows. Maybe I'll be suprised. At least the tins look cool 😆

Yeah got my .20 barrel a few years back from PA for $113.00 - they don't list them anymore :(.
Looks like Chambers is your best bet ........
I was gonna sell my HW80S in .22 caliber until I tried the .20 cal. , best Springer decision I ever made. The JSB 13.73 is amazing(y)
I do like my HW80SLK in .177 through, just more finicky ................ so far haven't seen the same command of the .20 yet.

Where did you get muzzle brake from. Looks great. Does it function as a silencer as well?
It looks like one of Steve Pope's design. Venom arms, very big in the UK. Unfortunately, Steve passed away some years ago, a genius in the airgun word.
I have a moderator just like it, does it have t he internal baffle system?

Little update. The Baracudas are just suprisingly slow. The JSB 10.3s are nearly 100fps faster for whatever reason. I should have suspected that because I get similar results between the FTTs and JSB 8.44s, although not nearly as significant a difference

Exactly! Theoben used them on the earlier Break barrels. Theoben did not make the whole guns. Even the ram assembly was farmed out. And we all know where the stocks came from.
