New to airguns

Purchased a Stoeger S8000 Tac in 22.

So far I’ve purchased Gamo Red Fire
and H&N Baracuda.

Found the Gamo Red Fire had to many fliers. All shots are from a bench.

H&N Baracuda has only had one flier.

About 100 rounds each brand of pellet.

Couple of questions. The Gamo pellets seem very loose in the chamber and the H&N are pretty snug. I need to push the H&N pretty hard. What’s more normal loose or tight ? I would think tight.

I have shot 3 rabbits all with the H&N at about 30’. All three were head shots and I needed a follow up.

Should I try another pellet ? Anyone else shooting s Stoeger S8000 Tac ?

Thanks

@Baird Welcome to the AGN forums. I’d say try as many different brand pellets that you can find and afford until you find what your gun likes. As for pellets fitting loosely or snugged within the breech, I think you’ve received some decent advice from other members concerning pellet head size.

As for you rabbit headshots, there isn’t a lot of room to play with to drop a rabbit where it sits using a .22. Try to aim towards the top of the head (from the front- slightly above and between the eyes, from the side - between the eye and ear, but slightly above then rear corner of the eye, or from behind - between the ears for a lethal brain shot on a rabbit.

This is one of the best threads on shot placement for brain shots that I’ve read on AGN. https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...ools-for-brain-shots-warning-graphic.1199450/

Here is another, albeit this one is focused on squirrels. https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/brain-shots.1198442/

New gun may need lots of shooting and good periodic barrel cleaning .. ive had some it took a heck of alot of shots and scrubbings before they got right ..

Some shoot most anything good right out of the box some take 1000's of shots . I had one i near gave up on and just bad , but kept plugging away with it . Then one day out of the blue it starting hitting great and became a best shooter. Also my thing is if it cant shoot cphp it dont stick around. I dont mind a pellet picky gun as long as it picks crosman....

Anyway the gun may need lots of that "break in" over normal. 3 p's. , Pellets , practice, and patience...lol

I just got a s8000 E Tac in .22. I am shooting, cleaning, shooting, cleaning and the groups have really tightened up, I bought H&N Baracuda Hunter Extremes and some Ruger 17 gr Superpoints. Suprisingly, the Ruger ammo shoots much better in my gun.
I like the gun but not the trigger. I wrote the folks at GRT but they didn't know which trigger would fit. Do any of you have any suggestions. Thanks, Will

Many triggers are adjustable to change the pull weight. Some require disassembly and spring changes and polishing of internal engagement surfaces. Does your manual offer any guidance to adjust the trigger? Perhaps there is something on YouTube if you search?

After reviewing the online manual it appears the pull, weight isn’t adjustable, only the length of pull.

Therefore you will likely have to disassemble the the trigger and replace a spring. Many factories don’t want you altering the trigger due to liability issues.
