New to Airguns, need advice on first purchase.

Thanks for your response, I'm interested in learning more about the Taipan Veteran. How many shots per fill? Accuracy distance? How loud? Any help would be great, I'm watching videos and looking for info as I type haha

Jay, in honesty, my Veteran is the best rifle for the money I've ever bought, and one of the best period. I'm shooting the 18 at around 900, and I believe I'm getting 55-60 good shots (it can be charged to 250 bar). With the additional silencer it is extremely quiet. It's backyard friendly with only the factory moderator, which is a good one. With a second attached, it's is very quiet. It is accurate, robust, dependable, great trigger, simple. Two potential drawbacks, it is heavy, and being a bit short and squarish, you might find it more difficult to shoot well. But, its exceptionally good trigger helps offset its handling quirks. Regarding your question about the HW110, I have not shot one. I have an HW100, and I have reviewed a lot of pictures and reviews of the HW110. IMO, the HW100 is well worth the price difference.

Years ago I tried a .25 veteran, and it's a really sweet gun. The trigger is what everyone says about it. It's that good. Very accurate gun.

I used to own an R10. Sold it. The R10 is not a bad gun but it's just old technology. IMO the r10 is not worth the price it is now. There are better guns in its price range.

If I had to choose, hands down it would the veteran.

Well I just learned how to "quote" a response haha. Thanks I find that most people agree. I'm definitely in the process of compiling a 5 gun list and gonna narrow it down to one. Thanks for your help

I really appreciate the info on the Taipan Veteran. I've got more research to do. I'm definitely gonna do most of my shooting 50yards or less but I would like to be able to reach out further when necessary. I keep coming back to FX guns but for some reason I want something different. If I may ask what about the HW100 makes it so preferable for you?

More steel, less plastic, a significantly better, true two-stage trigger, easier disassembly and adjustment, better magazine system, sturdier modular action design. The air cylinder on the HW100 easily unscrews for replacement, and I'm not sure about the HW110, but it appears to require a little more disassembly to remove.

All that said, a randomly chosen 110 might outshoot a particular 100. I'm a traditionalist, and the heavy, solid HW100 feels right to me.

Ok, I see. Thanks for the info.

The other major benefit of the FX is that you’re pretty much guaranteed to not have a barrel issue for two reasons. First, the way they make barrels allows to get much less variations between barrels. Second, if some reason you end up with a bad barrel, you can buy a new liner for only $100.

That's true, which is why Fx Dreamline Lite is on the list. Thank you for the advice

For my first PCP, I just purchased an FX Dreamline Light with Donny moderator and bottle for $1280. I can shoot grackles and squirrels in my back yard, try my hand at field target, and shoot pond turtles and plink on the family acreage. It is powerful enough to shoot slugs. If I want to move into a larger caliber later, I don't have to shell out another $1300+ for a new rifle. Just $300 for a barrel kit. In the last 12 months of research, I've changed the gun selection at least two or three times before settling on this one. Watch all the you tube videos and read forum posts you can.

On you tube, AEAC has great in depth product reviews, Matt Dubber (AirArms hunting South Africa) has great .22 cal hunting with slugs videos, and a great set of tutorials on Airgun ballistics. Airgun101.com is also a great source of video content. Vendors I looked at are: Pyramid Air, Airguns of Arizona, Airgun Depot and Utah Airguns. There are several more if you search.

good hunting!

Look at all the retailers in the banners above, find a gun that you think suits your fancy. Then go to YouTube and search for it and watch every review you can find on it. It always amazes me me when anybody come on here and ask us to tell him what to buy. Everyone here will tell you what they like. Find what YOU like. Just my worthless opinion! Good luck, enjoy the journey.

I don’t envy you. Having a $1,300 budget opens a bunch more doors. First decision you really need to make is do you want to join the bullpup fad or play it safe with a traditional rifle. Personally, I’m glad my first PCP was a traditional rifle. I got to enjoy its capabilities without dealing with bullpup shortcomings. I have a Taipan and a couple other bullpups. The Taipan is top notch, but it’s a little club that really only shines when you shoot it like a bench rest rifle. If Taipan built a semi bullpup or a rifle, they would never be able to fulfill the back orders or waiting lists. I am going to suggest you look at Brococks also. My buddy has one. Perfect size, balance, power and accuracy.

To be fair I'm not on here without doing plenty of research myself. I am continuing to do more, but obviously I'm stuck and was hoping for suggestions from those who have come before me so I can include that information in my buying decision. But thanks for the input. Take care.

Definitely appreciate your input, yeah the Fx Dreamline Lite keeps popping up in my group of qualifying rifle 😁. I'm a huge fan of AEAC and Matt. Just talked to done vendors today. Love all the info

That's very true, I of course want traditional and bull pup in one lol. That's why I'm a fan of the Hw110 Carbine. I'll have to go through Brocock again since my thoughts and taste have changed a little. Thank you

A mistake I see being made way too often is when a guy clicks “buy” on a gun, he immediately jumps on a forum to get validation for his purchase. Sometimes he gets his pants put on for him. When you make your decision, before you click buy, jump back on and ask about the gun. Be prepared for what you might hear. Some of us are not worried about being PC and only listen to guys who actually own the gun.

That's definitely fair, I cancelled that BSA because I thought I did plenty of research but then found tons more threads on it. I agree with only listening to those who own the guns. PC isn't something I worry about either which is why I usually just move on and ignore people looking for a rise out of me. Pure honest info is what I'm interested in. Thank you for your response.
