New to Air Rifles

Caught the bug after taking a few shots at a buddies house. Off to Walmart to buy a Crosman F4 cheap only $80,00 with scope did the ball bearing trigger mod and it shoots fine. After a week of shooting that gun started doing research about PCP rifles. Narrowed down to two guns Benjamin Maruader .22 and the Gamo Coyote Whisper .22. After a bunch of research went with the Coyote Whisper. I will be using for target shooting and pest control up to 50 yards. Ordered from AG Depot this weekend with the 15% off cost was just over $500.00 with a Mantis 4-12x40 and rings. I wish I had known about this site before I made my purchase. I would have been interested in feedback regarding my rifle choice.

The way I see it, your first rifle choice was a good one because it resulted in you having enough fun that you wanted another one. Welcome to the club.

I'm a die-hard springer snob, so I can't speak to your most recent choice, but I can offer some unsolicited advice regarding the next purchase! I'd say acquire a lower-powered springer. Why? Springers are simple, elegant, self-sufficient mechanical marvels, and the lower-powered ones shoot a lot sweeter (and you've got the high-power side covered with the Whisper). Sometimes less is more. My personal recommendation is for an HW30s. Perfect for target, plinking, or even squirrels up to 15-20 yards if you know what you're doing. Whether you match it up with small scope or just keep using the factory irons, it's hard to go wrong with an HW30s/R7. Lot's of other great choices out there as well, but that would be my next pick.

Or ignore everything I just said and get some monster big bore - as long as it's fun to shoot, it doesn't matter what it is!!

I feel your pain, OP...I started with CO2 pistols in the late spring...my wife and I got addicted to those, moved into a Benjamin 392 around Labor Day, bought a real sweetie with one of the smoothest triggers on any gun, fire or air! About a month later, got a .22 Gamo Swarm Maxxim for its repeating ability...and then started conjutating about 'what's next'. Yep. The addiction had struck!

Like you, I was going to move up into PCP's, but honestly, was really bugged about the cost of the peripherals...after all, I don't hunt with airguns, although one of my intents was to reduce the backyard rat population! But...they've disappeared now, the rat bastards!!! I had settled on the Marauder as the best choice, because I'm particular about quality and utility, and although there are less expensive choices, I think that this is probably one of the best bargains out there.

But...I've changed my mind. For the moment. I've decided to stick with springers, and my current target is an Air Arms TX-200, hopefully with the walnut stock, in .22 caliber. I just all around prefer the larger caliber, more controllable...in my admittedly limited opinion...in the urban environment in which I live. Accuracy is MUCH more important than velocity or power, and I have the more rainbow trajectory of the .22 factored in, slight as it may be.

The neighborhood wives have become annoyed with me. Their husbands come over, shoot, get infected with the virus...and y'all know the rest. None of them have taken the trouble to get a safe backyard range set up like I have but is cool...sometimes I like company!!!
