New Scope or Not (Hawke vs Athlon)

this is true with most FFP scopes that have higher magnification levels but...... it also may depend on what magnification level they calibrated the scope at. I Have an Athlon Ares 3-18x50 that is FFP but at 15 X it is the largest reticle thickness i have in my inventory.
Did Athlon change the APRS6 reticle thickness for 2025??, assuming you have the MIL version, because the Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 has .06 thick Mil reticle lines so should be easier to see.

Unsure but what I do know is what I see through the scope at 15x is very bold on the 3-18x50 Ares, I haven’t compared it to the Ares 2.5-15x50 in a side by side yet. Both are Mil version

I looked up the specs for the Heras 6x24 SFP & FFP and saw the SFP is calibrated to 16X, which is perfect for HFT-US. So, the SFP makes sense over the FFP for dedicated HFT gun. The FFP was only $25 more than the SFP on amazon.

Right, now I am using a Hawke Sidewinder 8x32 SFP SR Pro, and I would prefer to go to a MOA or MIL tree reticle. Which is why this thread has my attention.

My eyes are not young, and bigger markings are better for me now. Which is why I prefer FFP if it works to give a bigger reticle picture for me.

EDIT: Added bad eyes

Best to describe the 3-18 as the Ares ETR 3-18x50 whereas the Ares BTR 2.5-15x50 is one step down in tier level.

This ETR has a .05 mil reticle line thickness unless Athlon recently changed it. This BTR has .06 mil reticle line thickness. Both are FFP so we "should??" see a slight difference at 15x favoring the BTR as far as easier to see.

I have this Heras SPR 6-24x56 scope in both FFP and SFP and when set at 16x I can’t discern any difference in the reticle size.
For the SFP I Recommend a 6” round magnetic parallax wheel to get 120 degrees spread on the wheel while the FFP will only get 110 degrees
