New scope broke? Hawke Sidewinder

Hello again, I "built" a impact last year and basically put it in the case and never even got to sight it in(insert first world problems meme chick). I make a point to free up time for shooting and my scope is broke or Im an idiot. Its been my understanding that I set power for my most used setting or mid range for general use, then adjust focus to match that setting? To be sure Im not getting dumber in my old age, the focus is adjusted with the lens closest to the eye? So assuming the answers are yes...I cant focus on any setting other than minimum magnification. I picked up the scope from dvor for a bonanza price as a placeholder until I decided on something different, so is this the reason I got it cheap? I feel like hawke isnt going to want to warranty it because I got it from a warehouse outfit on the cheap and I am way beyond any return policy.

The left turret is to adjust the focus of your target.

The “ocular” or the adjustment closest to your eye is intended to make the reticle sharp and clear.

Hawke has THE best warranty in the scope industry IMO. I didn’t see any exceptions in reading the warranty in regards to where or how you bought it.

The instructions are written for everyone from the beginner to the pro.

Keep us posted on what you determine and good luck

You turn the ocular/eyepiece on the rear of the scope to bring the reticle into focus that is all it will focus. When adjusting the ocular lens point the scope at the sky or a wall to see that you have it focused properly. Once you have it focused you don't need to mess with it again. To focus the target in the scope you must turn the parallax ring at the front of the scope or the side adjuster dial on the left of the scope if you have a side adjustment model. You must focus the parallax ring/dial every time your target changes distance.

Looks like someone beat me to the post.

Thanks for the replies, I like that fella in the video. Its good to hear that about the warranty, thanks for the heads up and Ill start by calling Hawke tomorrow. I just wanted to be clear that Im talking about the Reticle Adjustment closest to the eye not the wheel on the side(parallax?). It seems it doesnt do much if anything and the reticle just never seems sharp as it should be.

It could be a defective scope but I would try to make sure you are setting it up correctly, assuming your vision is not nearing the range of adjustment possible. I know that all of my scopes require a large adjustment to the eyepiece to focus the reticle these days due to aging eyes. That seems to be an eye problem and not a scope problem. You might also try to focus the reticle in quick short "snaps" of vision against a clear sky. If you stare too long while you try to focus the eyepiece then the eye will try to correct and you might not get as good a result.
