Hello AN,

I am glad to be a new member and look forward to learning through the vast wealth of knowledge here. I today received a brand new RWS 34P Combo gun/scope. I was reading the other day that these guns tend to need some tuning in order to make them perform up to their potential. Can someone possibly point me in the direction of some steps to take to tune this gun? I am a former auto dealership technician and have worked on my other guns extensively but air guns are somewhat new to me. I can tell you one thing that this gun will need is a suppressor/moderator. This thing is as loud as a .22 rimfire WOW! Thanks for your help and I hope to be around a while.

If it's that loud, it may be either dieseling or the pellets are light enough to break the sound barrier. What pellets are you using?

Hello & welcome!

If your gun is loud, as in cracking the sound barrier loud, it’s dieseling. Too much lubricant. This usually stops within 50-100 shots but a tuner would get everything off it and use the right tar/lubes where needed.

A piston can be buttoned or sleeved to ride straight. Better seals & spring, fitted top hat, even Sunnen hone compression tube.
A tune will get rid of the twang & smooth shot cycle. If you want to do it there’s many YouTube videos that go into great detail.

If you want someone who does it professionally you have guys like Motorhead, Paul Watts, David Slade, John Thomas, Hector Medina & many others. Some specialize In different guns. Hector is king of The 54’s. Mr. Watts has his own Sunnen hone machine.
I personally use John in PA, AKA JIPA/John Thomas, because I live in PA. I’m very happy with everything he’s ever done. That being said I would absolutely be honored to own more tuned from every gentleman named above.
Switch to a heavier pellet until your gun breaks in and stops dieseling. Good luck no matter what you decide.
If you need anyone’s contact information I can provide if you PM me or someone here who knows by heart will provide a link.

It will stop deisling within a hundred shots. I wouldn't do anything other than Loctite 242 the three machine screws that hold the action to the stock. Sometimes these rifles come with the barrel pivot bolt to tight which adds to the cocking effort. I wouldn't worry about tuning it right away. Just shoot it ! I'm assuming yours is .22cal in which case try the RWS Superdomes and H&N Field Target Trophy with the 5.54mm head.
