New RTI Prophet compact II in 22 caliber BIG $

I really like my RTI Standerd 25/177 gun , Been wanting a compact , I see Tony at Talon Tunes has then on sale for 1,500 bucks wow, Just about to pull the trigger then I hear about the RTI Compact model II coming out , OK I get hold of RTI and want to put a deposit down on the new compact gun . Then I look at the invoice and its a little over 2000 dollars, Yes that's two thousand dollars , I like the concept of a simple build and the minimum O rings but I think its a little over priced,, I use hope they rethink this price ,,,,,

It’s like everything follows inflation wether it makes sense or not. For a sheet of 1/4 in plate steel that’s 5x10 the cost is now $1018!! The steel is the same thing just like the gun and it doesn’t change, yet three weeks go by and it’s now $95 increase. I think it’s pretty much simple greed…and that the mentality is “everyone else is doing it so we better do it too”. It’s really pretty ugly isn’t it! Still though isn’t it awesome to have so many choices of powerful accurate guns these days? Just amazing.

Know the new Gen2 Prophets have a different barrel than the Gen1. If you watch and listen carefully to Gregor’s “unboxing” video he speaks around this when he starts to discuss the barrel at about the 13:30 mark. According to Gregor, they are more geared toward slugs although he claims it will shoot pellets “very well”.
I’ve had one of the Gen1 Prophet Plus .22 standard for about a year and love it. And I’m not dissing RTI, the Prophet 2, slugs, pellets, Gregor et.al. But I would encourage anyone considering a Gen2 to carefully do their research before buying one so they don’t end up down the ammo/FPS/reg pressure rabbit hole after they get it.

Not sure about the new barrels or balanced valve's... I like.. more like love the barrel I have on my Prophet... shot count for the tune is great also... so the new barrels or valve is neither her nor there for me... but the new redesign cocking is a big deal the ball bearing (spring loaded detent ball) dug a good size groove into the soft aluminium. I fixed that issue with mine... glad to see RTI addressed that problem

RTI MAKES GREAT UNS BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH MINE, HAD A COMPACT BUT KEPT MY LONGER MODEL FOR SHOT COUNT

I am very interested in your thoughts on the full size Prophet vs the compact... your likes and dislikes. I have the full size and have been thinking about a conversion kit for mine. ( not to take away from the original OP question... please PM me on your thoughts)

When the Prophet 2 was announced, I had already been planning on a full size Prophet Performance, so started looking for more seriously for the Prophet 1, hoping to find a little better price from anyone trying to clear out inventory. I ended up getting mine from Talon Tunes for the same price that others were charging for a compact.
It was a win for me.
I figure it will be a long time before my capabilities exceed the gun I ended up with.

Buying on the downward slope of the technology/price curve can sure save lots of bucks. So many are caught up in the 'must have latest and greatest' marketing campaigns, whether it is cars, electronics, airguns, etc. So troglodytes like myself buy up the older technology as NOS from vendors preparing for the incoming newest stuff and save good money. I bought my NOS Prophet Performance .22 LR for less from a dealer than what I see folks trying to sell their used guns for. And even though it is now 'old technology', I am really enjoying the handling, shot count and accuracy!

But boy have airguns gotten expensive! You do a search for 'PCP air rifles' at a site like Airguns of Arizona (I'm not knocking AoA, just using them as an example), and it comes up with 7 pages of guns. And you have to go to page 5 of 7 before you even get below the $1,500 price point!

I thought my 'expensive' guns were highly priced a couple of years ago when I purchased them. Now I look back at those purchases as real bargains, where I should have bought more at the time. I'm glad I still have most of them. I recently did a trade-in with a dealer, and the trade value of my rifle was $50 more than the price I had paid for it new 2 years ago!
