I believe the king of long range shooting in powder burners at the moment is the bmg .50cal if I'm not mistaken (wouldn't be the first time)
Not quite.
This genre is a very interesting subject! We can begin with defining "long range". 500Y, 1000Y, 1500Y, 2000Y and farther??...
A friend of mine had a EDM Windrunner in 50 BMG using 750gr Amax going 2650 fps, I had my 375CT custom rifle using 350gr solids with almost as high a BC which was .9BC at 3250 fps. We were neck in neck starting at 1450Y, we moved farther back in 200Y increments. Making the story short by 1850Y he struggled to hit a 27" steel plate, and it was easy for me. At 2050Y he couldn't hit the same steel at all that I repeatedly hit. Speed and BC for me! Caliber is only one consideration. Go look up Kingof2mile to see what cartridges won.
At 600Y a 6mmBRA set the record for smallest group ever, a 5 shot .282". Same cartridge shot a 5 shot 1.3-ish" at 1000Y. Small caliber, Decent BC, Good speed and EXTREME precision!
Oop, I better put a plug in the PB subject.
I need a 4500 psi compressor bad! Of all the things to happen a car ran into the only dive shop in my city!
