new pcp on the way today ... RTI Prophet Performance Compact .22

I was dead set on getting an HW 100 bullpup carbine but I got my mind changed unexpectedly mostly because of shot count and the realization that I had an unreasonable objection to bottle guns. Truth is I bought the Taipan knowing that it 'fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch' but I WANTED the reliability and performance and got it.

Pretty stoked to get it and use it on GS in Eastern Oregon. A BIG fishing trip with two kayaks, nice motel, lots of lakes and GS.

My Taipan Veteran Long .25 is an awesome piece of hardware for dairies and ground squirrel but I going to start taking both guns, why not.

I like the externally adjustable regulator for ease of controlling shot count and fps. I am gonna shoot it at the factory 125bar setting and see what I get and suspect it will be quite nice yielding perhaps 60+shots at 900ish fps with 18grainers. We'll see.

This may turn out to be a gun that is set to only shoot 25.4grainers since it appears to be capable and an externally adj reg to fine tune it.

Looks like the OAL is 660mm m / 26" and with the assistance of a 6" long 0dB product it will finish out at 32".

I think you made the right choice. The Weihrauch guns are nice, but you're used to the next tier up in quality with the Veteran. Let us know how it goes! I'm eyeing a Prophet full size...

Hi Chris. Glad I did not needlessly constrain my choices, credit to you.

I paid for UPS Red, I am a fairly patient guy but not with nice air rifles.

We are only out for 2 or 4 nights, fishing trip, and the new gun can likely shoot nicely living off a scuba tank for fills. NOT dragging a generator and compressor with a car full of kayaks and fishing gear, OVERLOAD.

Your next purchase should be a 4500 psi buddy bottle! You can pick them up for $300 and will get you through a short kayak trip with full fills on your guns.

Yeah probably. Not sure what's gonna fit next into my shooting routine.

Currently have:
Hill EC 3000 compressor
Honda Eu2200i generator
80 cf Scuba tank

Lots of gizmos in the last few months, like it.

If you can convince yourself to stay around 125b with the appropriate HS setting, the gun should be enjoyable to shoot. You will also want to address the slippery butt plate. These guns aren’t like your Taipan. When you start cranking up the reg, they get harder to shoot. You wanted the HW for a barn gun so if you can stay satisfied with barn gun power and pellet weight, the RTI should deliver what your looking for. I turned my RTI into a mini a couple years ago. I cut down a Kral barrel and used a Best Fittings 300cc bottle. Unfortunately my gun is a .25 and I didn’t like the way the gun behaved when I had the reg set high enough to push 25gr pellets 875fps.

That's interesting and I will follow your suggestion. My Taipan .25 has the reg set at 100bar +- 5ish and shoots wonderfully with a 10es and 52 shots at 900fps, nice.

About the only adjustment I would make with the Prophet would be to de-tune and find some pellet that likes lower fps for the indoors fun and shot count.

My FAVORITE target is shooting flies off baited target paper at 19 yards, no hunting license required and they don't spook ;) ;) ;). 500fps is fine for that!!!

But when you got your Taipan and the reg was set much higher, it was still a sweet shooter even though it was hot. The RTI won’t be. It just doesn’t have the same dead weight the Taipans do. Just put some kind of traction tape on the butt stock to get you by for the kayak trip. Then you can address old slippery when you get more time.

You remember the history I see. Yeah the Taipan was set to 140ish and glad I turned it down!!!

Seems like the factory setting of 125bar on the Prophet is producing 'accuracy' velocities with 18 grainers from what I could extract from YT and elsewhere. Why go up and defeat my intent of getting a higher shot count and a shorter gun, I won't.

The ONLY downside to the Prophet is the apparent lack of shroud internals, odd I think. My Taipan has custom tight tolerance shroud internals and I should be able to do the same with the Prophet, not sure. With decent shroud guts and a Tatsu, that I already own, it should be quiet and still under 30"?

There's a 0dB 6" coming with it for starters.

Congrats on the new PCP.

Like you, I can get impatience when it comes to waiting on deliveries of certain items. In today's case, waiting for the end of the day to go pick up my Taipan. I will have to read through your post on it as I get familiar with the new gun, thanks again for your help with selecting it.

I also look forward to post about the prophet, and seeing what she's capable of.

Loooooong day I suspect? The only rifle I've ever had 100% complete confidence in is the Taipan and based on other's input the HW100.

This is a finger-crossing deal for me buying the Prophet. The Eastern Euro folks do know a thing or two about making high quality air rifles so I am pretty darned confident.

I built a baffle/air stripper and then two chambers on my lathe for in my shroud. My gun is very quiet even when I pushed it hard with slugs. For complete silence the most I have to screw onto the end of it is a little Huggett Atom. But I rarely do. It’s shockingly quiet for a .25 shooting 910fps. So it can be done if you don’t want your once short gun suddenly long with a 6” can on it. Your “compact” is 4 inches longer than my full size, full power, huge shot count gun.
