New owner, Hand Pump maintenance?

Hello everyone,

I just ordered my first PCP rifle, a Hatsan Flashpup. I am a bit frightened by the inherent dangers of compressors and tanks, so I have opted to buy a cheap hand pump off of Amazon. Truth is, I really need the exercise too.

The pump was advertised as not including the silicone oil, which I assume is used in the assembly. Are there any tricks of the trade before I begin putting it together? Any better oils or grease? Will the pump need any routine maintenance?

Thanks for any help getting me started. If all goes well, I will purchase a better hand pump (Hill) very soon.

There’s not much Assembly involved. All the Innards will already be put together.Every now and then I put a thin coating of silicone oil on the inner smaller tube. And like was already said don’t let it get hot or even real warm. Take a break and let it cool down. And when you do that bleed the little screw at the bottom . It will let any moisture out. Then tighten the screw back up and start pumping again. And you pump it slowly from all the way to the top to all the way to the bottom. I have a cheap Chinese pump that has worked fine for over three years. It wouldn’t hurt to put a better filter on it either. The one that they supply is just a little filter that looks like a cigarette butt. That’s not enough. But as long as there’s not high humidity where you’re pumping, you should be OK for now.
