For springers, I would choose the HW95 Luxus in .177 over the HW98 unless you're going to do anything that has to do with Field Target shooting. The HW95 is lighter compared to the HW98 and it's going to cost you about $140.00 less than the HW98. They're both break barrel springers but carrying one (HW98) for long periods through the woods can be a core at times when both of them can do basically the same thing. The HW95 comes ready to shoot right out the of box with iron sights but the HW98 is going to need a great scope that's springer rated. If it were me, I would purchase the HW95 and then shop around for a decent scope. Welcome to the club of airgun addicts! JMHBHO

Welcome.

The powermaster 66 is a great little gun for inside 20 yards or so. It can be a lot of fun for practicing and just plinking with. Probably one of most most used guns, even though I have nice springers and pcps.

Yeah the new stock on the 98 doesn’t have the same appeal. I don’t have experience with the 95, but you may want to consider the 97. It is just a slight bit more weight but depending on your use the fixed barrel may give you a little more peace of mind.

Welcome aboard and Mainly, just have fun.

I am really lost with Scope. Still trying to understand a few things.
- Are not all scope good for springers? If so how do you know if it's springer compatible? Most websites don't show this information.
- Are scope mount universal?

I do think you're right about the HW95. But I might just get the .22 version over the .177 after reading the hundreds of post on this forum. Easier to handle as I have fat fingers. More ethical for critters when not a perfect shot.

I don't know. It shoots all over the place. Maybe I'm just bad. I'm using BB's if that matters.

Too bad about the 98. I like the looks with the black grip.

Try using pellets in the 66 if you want any kind of accuracy. I’ve got a couple a lady was taking to the dumpster. I cleaned them up and with pellets they are a lot of fun. I can consistently hit a 3/4” spinner at 10 yards from standing with mine.
Bam86. I tried. But my fat finger can't get the pallet into that hole and line it up. If you have any strategy for getting the pallet in I'm all ears.

No Sir, not all scopes are "springer" or spring-piston rated because of their firing behavior. If I were shopping for scopes that are springer-rated, I would contact one of many airgun venders. I would start with "Pyramyd Air" at 888-891 1653 because they have a huge selection of scopes, both high and low end in quality and price. This is why I would start with the HW95 if you're in dire need of an airgun and the price that I mentioned earlier was based on Airguns of Arizona's web site

Was hoping to buy a used scope. The following seems like a good deal. But open to other scopes too. How important is it to have a Mil Dot?

Being a new member, you're not going to able to buy, sell or trade here because of "forum rules". I would suggest that you decide on which springer you're going to purchase first and then visit 'Traditional Airguns" which is the 3rd topic down with "Airguns & Accessories". Personally, that particular scope isn't
"springer-rated" and when it comes to springer, I would still visit the section that deals with your more "traditional" airguns like springer piston airguns. This forum does have a huge wealth of information coming from some very knowledgeable people and "always buy once and cry once". Take your time and get to know the answer to your concerns from people "in the know" concerning springers.

I understand I won't be able to buy / sell trade, but I'm still looking so just trying to see what will work or not.

I just called AoA and placed an order for HW95 .22. I read the post "first springer" and alot of people recommended this.

Agree on Buy Once and Cry Once. But even then. I can't tell what's the best money can buy scope for springer for pesting and also used at a range for target.

I would call Pyramyd Air and ask them about the "Hawke Vantage 4-12x50 AO Scope' and the "Hawke Vantage 3-12x44 AO SF, 1/2 Mil-Dot, 1/4 MOA, 1". Please ask them if they would recommend these scopes for your HW95, we're only asking them for their opinion, some people like them and there are those that don't.
