New Law Impacting Airguns? Eeeek regulations

There was a topic started here awhile back. What do you see new for airguns in 2021. Or something like that? I brought up this very thing. I knew it was coming. Some have said it's hard to discuss this without getting political. So what? It IS POLITICAL.

These things need to be discussed within the shooting community. Burying our head in the sand because you're afraid to get political, is a great way to lose all your freedoms. And trust me. They do want to take most, if not all our freedoms away. To do that, you start with the 1st and 2nd Amendment.

While I agree largely with you, I think the intent with the AGN rule is clear: aside from airgun laws or laws immediately pertaining to airguns, all other political discussion is prohibited. If you saw Off Topic in the last 5 months, and its disappearance, you can see some of the logic behind the AGN rule. So back to this discussion and its impact on airguns! Usually laws like this get pushed to push the overton window further away from gun friendly policy. The next round of policies then usually shuttle in smaller portions of this same law. Doubt me? Look at the 2016 Ammo Apocalypse laws in California, which did directly impact airgunning believe it or not. How? Most stores that are brick and mortar that carried ammo also sold pellets, and because of the law it made it financially not sustainable for most retailers to train their employees on background checks and so on, so they opted out of the whole sporting ammo department, and along with that pellets for airguns. Walmart in my area is a major one I can think of that has done this. Lots of times regulations hit your wallets first before outright banning something (which they don't have to do if they just take away the option in the mean time). Additionally, why would gun stores cut further into their profit by offering a more affordable alternative in airguns? Lead in California will be the next battle, so it is nice to see some companies proactively working on non-lead options.

Edit: BTW, if the Alphabet org do that -- even if this new bill doesn't pass -- anyone with a full auto pellet rifle would instantly be subject to federal prison time for possession of a machine gun / unlicensed NFA firearm. Something to keep in mind...

That statement is not accurate.

The Gov. have reclassified weapons before, look up the reclassification of the Street Sweeper and the Striker 12 as an example.

There was an amnesty period during which anyone in possession was offered the opportunity to register the weapon or to transfer it to a licensedf dealer of deatructive devices. There was not an immediate round up and prosecution of owners.

Remember, at the time of purchase the weapon was legal, and purchased in good faith.

While a new level of lunacy and control would not actually surprise me, it is far more likely under the circumstances you propose that a grace period would be granted before prosecution would commence.

Many of the proposed bills do not offer a grandfather clause and the specific bills being reviewed in TX have zero grace period. Even for registration and paying the 800 tax. On day one the bill goes live, you are in violation -- even though the bill makes zero mention of how the gov is supposed to handle registration and collection of the tax!

You're kidding yourself if you think stuff like that won't be happening more and more as these bills get written and passed. Look up the bills Sheila Jackson (D- TX) has submitted this year. She is so far removed from the people she "represents"...they don't even consider what it will be like for us to jump through the hoops trying to comply -- and they don't care either.

Wait till they come after moderators, barrel shrouds, LDC'S, silencers, etc etc.. Whatever you want to call them? Any sound lowering device. Then it will be any semi auto with a threaded barrel. That will probably come first. Don't forget caliber. In proposed HR bill 127, .50 caliber would be illegal. Elections have consequences.

Yeah, about that .50 cal ammo thing:

Will we see .499 cal ammo?? LOL.

The bar will keep getting lower and lower. .45, then .357. Do you realize what these people's final end game is when it comes to guns. They will not stop.

Just so long as nobody does stupid things like shoot slugs without a known safe backstop or their way further down backdrop in their urban neighborhood not realizing how far they can effectively travel. Its effectiveness is likely shooting between a standard velocity 22 Rimfire and a short and even more so using larger caliber slugs.

Can you imagine how far the travel distance the pass throughs at the bird on a wire shot at the upward angle or ricochets FROM the concrete pavement or hidden rocks in the grass can actually travel and the damage due to the superior ballistics of modern day slugs?

Just the sound of pellet ricochets from a sub 12fpe 177 pellet makes me wonder.

Don't be so sure about that. I've never heard of an air gun incident that would would prompt air guns to be considered real firearms, and subject to all firearm laws here? But, it is the law. Never be complacent.

Oh I'm well aware.

Laws are playthings to these people. I have an extremely cynical view of where things are headed.

Many people do not realize how powerful airguns are. If the majority of people knew, there would likely already be calls to ban them.

Their endgame demands we be fully unable to defend ourselves in any meaningful way. An air rifle that can take a hog will be deemed "too dangerous".

Trust me. These politicians, handlers and advisors now in charge now the power of some air guns. In their minds, first things first. Powder burners. Guess what's next? And for people who say this or that bill won't make it out of committee. You are probably right. But, that's not how these slimy swamp creatures pass this stuff. It will be put into appropriation Bill's to fund the military. Or something like a Covid relief bill. It gives rinos cover. Well I had to vote for it because how can I not vote for stimulus payments for people hurting from Covid lockdowns and job losses. This is how they do it. The current President said this exact tactic in an interview which was never aired, one year ago.

Please keep the content directly in relation to the bill addressed above and discuss that only. I do not want this thread shutdown for being off topic. I will flag my own thread if I have to. Keep general politics out and address this law specifically. Please keep it airgun related Exclusively. Rules are rules.

Thanks

Ok. No problem. But goodbye 1st Amendment due to fear of what government will do. This is how you incrementally lose a free republic.

I said nothing to defend that group when they came for them. And nothing about the other groups when they came for them. I felt I was safe, and under the radar. Then one day they came for me? I looked around, and there was no one to help me or defend me.
