Hey all, new here -

I have a few CO2 BB/Pellet hand guns, and now I've thought of getting a PCP rifle . I've done a lot of reading here in the last few days, lotsa info..!

I've narrowed my choice to three guns (in no particular order), yes, I like the Bullpup design:

1. Edgun Lelya

2. Ataman BP17

3. FX Wildcat II

I've read about all three brands, seen You Tube info an all but the new BP17 (I don't speak Russian).

One question for you all, why no apparent love for the Ataman brand on this site ? I've looked found nothing, used the "search" function and found a little, but still not much overall info. Seems to be a good brand as seen on various You Tube videos.

well, mike, alot of it has to do with the practical and non exciting aspects of airgunning. ataman enjoys a reputation for power but also loudness. many folks prefer real quiet power for hunting or pesting. secondly, the support network is no where near as prevelant as say crosman , fx daystate and so forth. this can lead to difficulty getting certain brands repaired under warranty. it is nothing personal regarding certain brands, just present reality. so most favor products that are common and abundent information and support are available if needed. edgun is making inroads, but taipan, vulcan and ataman are still a bit more rare. it is not that they are not favored. by the way, those are some great guns you have selected to try out. by reputation, i have wildcat, heard edgun was real nice, i don't really know ataman, except reputation. good luck

Atamans are known not to be efficient on air. The BP17 does not have a high shot count, I think like 20 from a 300 bar fill. I've had a m2r and it had a high fill pressure and a low shot count, that sort of put a drag on it. Although the power was great!

The wildcat is good. I've shot a .22 and it was lazer accurate and had a smooth firing cycle. The entry price is good, but if you want to pimp it out you will have to buy a few things, like: no-limit rings ($80), mag holders ($30 apiece), mags ($35 a piece), a moderator (approx. $100-200), Woodstock is a $200 up grade.

I own a Leyla. The Lelya is more expensive but you get more. For example: a 20moa rail (no need for adjustable rings), mag holders already standard, standard wood stock, and a moderator as standard. If your right handed having a sliding cocking handle on the left side is priceless. ( I don't think I can ever go back to a regular rear lever, or even a forward lever on the right side...ever, now.) Also, the the durability of Edguns are off the charts. Plus, if it does need something, the maintenance is easy. The simplicity of the design and numerous repair videos make owners more comfortable knowing most everything can be done themselves (not sent off to some shop for repair).

Yes, I had a problem with my Ataman. The parts will be here in three months. I ordered parts in early December and will get them in early March. When I tried to contact people who would know a little something about Atamans, I got nothing. They are "quality" guns woodwork/trim/finish are amazing but lack of a support network. You got an Ataman, your pretty much on your own with it.

With Edgun you'll have Brian from Edgun West and even Ed himself on the forum helping owners out. There is no other company that does that, period.

I seriously considered an Edgun before I bought the Crown. Rugged, reliable, ease of maintenance, etc.

I had a Wildcat MKII, can't go wrong there. Magazines for this gun are cheap compared to others like my Crown.

FX has outstanding customer support as well as a wealth of knowledge in the forums, and a bunch of videos. And you have Ernest Rowe (Master technician) at FX USA to guide us.

Either of those choices would be good ones.

My 2 cents, I bought a hw 97k, my first adult air rifle. Loved it. Loved it so much, I saved and bought a daystate renegade in .303. Then I bought a leshiy in .25. For me , the edgun is a great tool, I’ve logged more interesting shots than any other rifle I have. I then wanted something different, so bought a zbroia on a whim ( great rifle btw) and a used Craigslist Ataman m2 ultra carbine in .22. ( fantastic trigger, semi portable, very quiet with a donnyfl, very efficient and accurate). But if I could only have one...it would still be the leshiy. Because I can take it anywhere. The leyla 2.0 is about as good as it gets in semi portable and fast reload. So save and get the edgun. Don’t bother with the rest, unless you find a smoking deal on a Ataman. Buy once, cry once and get the best hunting air rifle in my opinion right now, edgun. 

Also, maybe consider the Fx dreamline? In bullpup? I know, I’ve never owned an fx, I’ve heard they can be fantastic or fragile at times with many orings, but the dreamline ( the el cheapo plastic stocked 999.99 maybe? Has me very intrigued because the power adjustment and regulator adjustments and caliber change.)

I never shot any of those but id pick the leyla over all of those. I love the edgun videos wich is second kind of cool but the lothar walther barrel can shoot slugs if u ever wanted to go that route. I have a lothar walther on my airforce condor and it is basically a lazer gun. If you want a gun just as accurate as those at half the price get a condor. You will have to put up with lame ergos tho. All of those guns you mentioned are awsome. Ataman is a great company but the love is just not there. I know I would love the ed gun. Im looking at the leishy right now.

I'd go with Edgun.

I just got a slightly used Edgun R5M .25 long the other day and this gun is top notch, so well built, with great material and seems to hit harder with lower fps "avg 920" then my other .25's, which is a highly modified Airforce Condor "avg 970" and a slightly modified Benjamin Marauder "avg 950"

As far as support goes, you can definitely count on Ed to give you a straight answer and quick too but with Edgun west I have not received the same support as other have claimed, most of the responses I've got in return were erupt and short, almost as if I shouldn't have asked but this is just my feeling, now granted I did have a lot of question before I decided on which gun I was going to get but as a result of not feeling like I was getting the same experience as others and amongst other factors, I decided to buy the slightly used one.

Given my last email with him, I'm glad I did but yeah you can't go wrong with a Edgun.

Well, despite not wanting to spend a lot of money (retired), I received a new Lelya from Brian today.

It was a tough decision between the Ataman, BP17 and the Edguns, Lelya (.22).

I'm modifying the stock to both fit my trigger hand better (not comfortable at all !), and to give it smoother, cleaner sides. Will post pictures in a week and a half or so.
