I'm new to air gun shooting and just got a new gauntlet 2. I have shot the rimfire benchrest game for several years and got tired of the high dollar ammo monopoly that goes along with it....lol I built my own rifles and several rifles for other shooters over the years that I was in the rimfire game, but it come down to no matter how good a rifle I could build, it was worthless without good ammo for it.....that's what has drawn me to trying the air rifles.
I got this Gauntlet and stripped it down right out the box...I got rid of that plastic "air stripper" and spring and machined an aluminum guide fit to the end of the barrel to firmly hold the barrel centered in the shroud and made a aluminum spacer to make up the space for the spring and another spacer so that the end cap would hold the baffle stack and barrel firm when installing the end cap. I worked on the trigger, polished and adjusted it to about 4 oz., it passed the rubber mallet test....lol I milled out that plastic barrel collar on the forearm so there is no contact with the barrel now. I shot two clips with it this evening on my backyard range with some JSB 33.95 gr. pellets at 50 yards and had two eight shot groups that were less 1/2". I also make barrel tuners and air strippers that I used on my rimfire rifles, I'm going to start experimenting with those to see if I can get it tuned better using them....I think I'm getting ready to go down another rabbit hole now....lol
Here's a couple pics of that forearm mod I did to it.......
