New design AEA Pellets update & comparison to old design

How do we know which we ordered? What I found is the head size on the ones that don’t shoot well are <7.64mm. The older ones that shot well were all 7.65 and 7.66mm. But the tins look the same and you can’t tell the difference.
Very sad…. Faster makes no difference.
I didn’t know the 45s were having the same issues as the 50.5. I guess it you’re going to mess something up, go big or go home.
Are you saying you've had issues with the 50gr since earlier in the year?

I think the 45gr were fine with the batches up through April which is when they appeared to sell out everywhere. New batches received in early August. I measured some head sizes and for the older 45gr I get 7.60-7.61mm. The new batch of 45gr I am seeing 7.57-7.58mm in head size. Definitely a change.

Here's some pics of old versus new. The only difference I can see from the tins is the older 45 gr had a smaller barcode label that didn't extend over the sides.

Yes. The 50.5 have been a problem and yes, the head sizes on those are smaller also. They do not have a sticker but the label is printed on the bottom. Not sure why these manufacturers “fix” things that aren’t broken. 😞

Wow - I'm so glad I came across this. I took my Sonoran out yesterday and my results were terrible compared with what it normally does. This now makes complete sense. I was shooting out of a cleaned and lubed tin which was a mix of the old style and the new style.

Now that I can clearly see there is a difference I am going to sort out all the old and new from the cleaned and lubed lot. I still have 3 new tins of the old style and now close to 20 tins of the new style after waiting nearly 4 months on a UA pre-order. I'm going to aim to do some 100 yard testing this weekend if I can find the time.

This type of crap is why there is no consistency in the airgun market. All the makers do it too JSB, NSA, Zans, now AEA who I had hoped would be a consistent source fo amazing ammo. Damn.......
My Sonoran accuracy has dropped as well. I did not know that AEA changed the design of their pellets. I’ve had four or five shipments of their pellets over the last few months and have more coming on Wednesday. I don’t know what I’m shooting lol.

This really has me wondering now. I’ve posted some amazing (for me) 100yd sub-MOA groups on the HAM forum using AEA pellets with my Sonoran. Then the groups opened up. I’ve chased the tune trying to get it to shoot the same. I shoot almost every day and I‘ve received several different orders of AEA pellets during this time. I’m going to have to try and see if I have a mix of pellets.
