New Barrel Prep for BR

How do you prepare a new Barrel for BR Competition?
Does Rifled VS. Poly change your method?
Do you "ultra clean" then start the leading in fresh?

Does a "new to you" barrel/rifle differ from a factory new barrel/rifle?

My Basics: Patchworm with Ballistol
Borescope inspect
Maybe scrub with Bronze brush
Patchworm and ballistol 'till dry patches are clean
Maybe Naptha clean and apply wax.

Depends on the quality of barrel to begin with. Chinese barrels are typically filthy, filled with manufacturing particulate and I swear … floor sweepings and require lots of scrubbing, patches, JB Pastes and or lapping compounds, polishing followed by even more and more cleaning before I ever shoot them.

LW poly and CZ cut barrels I’ve owned are some of the finest production pipes and require the least amount of cleaning.

Thomas barrels, well they are magnificent and light years ahead of any other. Pull a patch, it’s comes out white, go shoot, repeat and it’s STILL white. Truly amazing.

BTW, I sent a LW barrel to an airsmith and he lead lapped it. This did not change the accuracy by much but greatly extended the cleaning intervals and increased its consistency.
