New barrel for my p15?

My p15 has spiral, crazy tight loop d loop. Amazingly close to accurate out to 80nyds. Just as accurate as 25 yds. Usually within 1 1/2". 770 fps. I've run from 617 - 770. Any advice. What do i need to know if i go LW ? I've been looking the page over. What twist rate for JSB 25G? Any help.advice welcome. Yes i know it's a cheap gun, but, its heck of a squirrel , birder, (just shoot it and forget it?)

Lol ... I just did a full service & tune on a customers P15 in .177 and got the gun to be Mechanically a MUCH improved gun. Sadly like yours accuracy is sub par and it spirals pellets like crazy and seems to have no preference to any pellet.

So ... my customer said RE-BARREL IT, so we did just that. using a HW barrel machined it to fit while also fitting a custom LDC with more volume.

All said & done it now shoots VERY accurate, but due to the guns very small statue and light weight really tough to hold still unless on a bag.

Sexy little gun now for sure ... ( Optics are mine & a tad large for the gun IMO.)

Weihrauch / HW .....

Have a dwindling stash of these WHEN WE COULD get them out of the UK from SILCO, sadly they changed there export practices and NO LONGER will sell the USA air gun barrels.

Lothar Walther is about it unless you can find something else, someones take off etc ???

Or .... get in touch with TJ's barrel liners and see what they may have for a blank that is .508" or better in O.D. ( assume the .25 barrel O.D. is the same for all calibers ? )

Jefferson State Air Rifles offers LW barrel for the Skyhawk (p15) I am about to install a .22 LW Choked 23.82" Standard profile, which I will reduce to 22" , I have spoken to a few that have done so and the gun is incredibly accurate. You have to drill out the scope mount / barrel bands to match the width/OD of the new barrel as the P15 Barrel has an OD of 13mm, my new LW has an OD of 15mm...The additional barrel length and the addition of a larger plenum will make the .25 shine and should have you up to 860 -880 fps on 25 grain JSB's

Another member installed a 12mm OD LW barrel but had to add brash shims in the scope mount/ barrel bands to take up the 1mm play in reduced OD of barrel....

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I am wanting to replace the barrel on a Snowpeak P35 .25 cal with a LW. From what I've read everyone appears to be shortening the stock LW 23.82" down to 22" or less. With the stock P15 barrel I can only get around 800 fps, 850fps with a 1/4" shim in the hammer, which feels like it's stressing the parts, and harder to cock. Wouldn't leaving the LW barrel at the stock length give me the increased velocity allowing me to decrease my hammer spring tension if needed? Thanks.

23 7/8 inch Lothar Walter barrel 25 cal,, SPA P15, early model and a larger plenum, back when Lee first made them, makes me smile when I shoot her
I used an adjustable reamer to open up the barrel bands, put them in a vise together and reamed both at the same time
I needed the full lenght so the fill port cover could extend open with my Donny sumo on it

I have three P35s, one in each caliber. My 177 and 22 are six months newer than my 25. They are also more accurate. I've shot 184 a couple times with the 177 and 19? with the 22 on the 30 yard challenge. I am hoping to improve both this year. The 25 is about 160 at the same game. It works well to smack squirrels in the head but it is not a good target gun at this point. It's favorite pellet of the ones I've tried is the H&N FTT (20 grains) and I detuned it to get them moving at 870 fps.

I've been thinking about rebarreling it even though it works fine for it's main reason for existance now. The fact that my newer P35s shoot significantly better are making me consider rebarreling with another newer SPA barrel - if they will sell me one. Any tips on getting a response from them are welcome. I've emailed them a couple times on other parts and got no response. If that doesn't work I guess I will think some more about a LW or possibly a TJ barrel. But I would want the barrel to be 13mm in diameter and no more than 20 inches long and I would want it threaded for the stock diverter. I don't want to change the light weight and short nature of the gun any more than necessary. But the gun seems better suited to 22 caliber and a little more barrel should help getting 25 caliber pellets up to ~850 fps. I guess my first choice is a bullshark barrel since it is about 1.5 inches longer than the P15/P35.

A few weeks ago did ANOTHER rebarrel job for the same customer mentioned back on post #2
This go around used a .177 CZ barrel from a Cricket Pup ( Special Order ) machining it as needed to fit EITHER a 15 or 35 Spa / Artemis.

Along with that 2 more guns ( P-15 & P-35 ) that got HuMa Regs, Valve work, Overall clean up & prep.

What I know of these little pups, ideally suited to .177 & .22, think there a stretch as a .25 tho

Scott,

I found my 177 a little "hot" and had to reduce the hammer spring length to be able to turn it down enough to see a change in velocity. Shoots 10.65 just under 900 fps. Too fast for me with lighter pellets. Regulator is set at about 100-110 bar. Could go lower, I guess. Uses 1 bar per shot.

My 22 is great. Accurate with the Baracuda Match it prefers and gets 60 shots or so on a fill with them moving about 835 fps. So about 32 fpe.

My 25 likes the really light FTTs and has them moving at about 875 for about 32 fpe. I lowered the regulator to keep them below 900 fps.

I tested JSB 25.39 and got about 770 fps, H&N Baracuda 30.86 were about 750 and JSB 33.95 went about 740 fps. But I later discovered a burr in the barrel port and when I removed it the velocity of the FTTs went up about 40 fps. They were about 860 with the burr and just under 900 after. So I turned it down and haven't retested the other pellets. I doubt I would see an increase of 40 fps on the heavier ones, maybe 30 fps. I think getting 800 fps or a bit more on 25.39s is realistic with a little higher regulator pressure and/or a 10-15cc plenum increase. But I would be surprised to get 850. I would be pleasantly surprised to see 800 on the 31s or 34s. Trying to get them close to 900 would be a good way to waste money and ruin a decent gun IMHO.

I agree with you but my conclusion is a little different. I think my P35 is a nice 30-40 fpe 25 caliber but I don't expect to try and take it higher than this, If you need more than 40 fpe best to pick a different gun.

Jim

Thanks for the input! I was wondering how I was going to ream out the barrel bands, so you just answered another question I had. What's the preferred twist rate?

I wish I could say the same. I had all my guns and other things stolen last summer (over $41k) while my Pack Rat moving container was stored at their "secured" facility. My .22 P15 was the cheapest of the bunch, but my favorite to shoot. It shot hole in hole at 25 yards all day long. I replaced it with another P15 for my girlfriend for Christmas and it shoots just the same. I then purchased 2 P35's (.22 and .25) and they both shoot horrible with any pellet I've tried. I've recrowned them, installed Huma regs and a plenum in the .25, and I still can't get over either to shoot worth a darn.
