Hello guys,

My name is James and i am 16 years old, and i just got a Gamo Delta Fox GT with a thumbhole stock for my birthday. I'm super happy with it, and have loads of fun with it.

I always shot it open sights but i bought a 6x32AO mil-dot scope from Aliexpress for it, mounted it and the problems have started

So i zeroed the gun with the scope, at exactly 19 yards, and i can shoot a pencil 3 times and hit it.

But what i don't understand is, i saw a feral pigeon at 25 yards, i placed the crosshairs in the upper chest area, and it didn't hit. Is it because i'm shooting from my room? because the angle is down, it is not a straight line. 

I would also like to know where too aim when it is 30-35-40 yards.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, James, and welcome!
In my opinion the best way to figure your aim points is to shoot at various distances. Extreme up or down angled shots usually require that you aim low. Here's a trajectory diagram that may help clarify hold over/under.
A good practice is to set up targets at different ranges and see what happens with your aim points.

Another thing worth mentioning is that spring or gas ram breakbarrels require an 'airgun rated' scope. The forward recoil of a spring or gas piston gun can break even scopes rated for powerful firearms. Hopefully your scope will hold up. If your gun is still on at your zero diastance, then all's well.

Welcome. Good luck with your new gun. The best way to see where your pellets will hit at further distances than your zero is to set up targets at 30 35 and 40 yards and use the correct mildot for each. That is the fun part and then make a small cheat sheet. I would also suggest watching Teds Holdover on youtube. It is fun and educational.

And Im sorry but i have to say this. (old man advice) 1. Make sure you have a good backstop when shooting in your yard. Those pellets will ricochet. 2. Take a hunter safety course. Be aware neighbors watching you shooting birds from a second story window. You can get in big trouble.

the steeper the angle the less effect the gravity will have, imagine if you shoot straight up, you will not have to compensate/hold over.
the same if you shoot straight down again the scope height will have more effect than the distance.

the distance over the gravity acts is b(the adjacent)=cosinus(angle) *h(hypotenus -usually what you measure with laser rangefinder the straight but angled line)

on long horizontal shots you have to use the mildot chart, at least you got the right reticule. you will have to place a card at different distances and work out where the pellet hits.

it can be too that that gun does not like the pellet type, so it will not group/ or shoot where you expect to shoot so i would spend some time pellet testing, finding the best combination.

i am a pcp man, but probably you missed because springers are hold sensitive, there is a technic to it.

and looking at the specs of that gun, to me it seems it is 7.5joule, it is too weak for hunting so use it for paper punching only. Probably it will wound it, you dont want that. Max it will take out the eye of the pigeon.

I think you probably needed to aim higher. You really need to get to a place you can set up targets from 20-40 yards every 5-10 yards. That riffle probably has the flatest trajectory between I'm guessing 20-35 yards. Just set up some targets and start shooting. You will notice where it hits each target in relation to your mildots. For me with my NP1 stays pretty flat from 22-38 yards so II zeroed at 30yards as it's in the middle of those two numbers more or less. Out to 45 yards I'm about 1 1/2 mildots hold and out to 50 about 2 and it drops about a mil dot per 5 yards after. That gun likes RWS super point 8.4grn pellets. I didn't find out what it likes at distance until I started shooting at distance. I started with Premier HPs at 7.9 but got better groups with the RWS at further range. Maybe need to try different ammo. Maybe you have a buddy who shoots different ammo?
