Dropped my TJ barrel off last Friday to a machine shop and just got it back today. I think he did a great job at a good price. Looking forward to trying it out.
I'm assuming I will just with the added length of the barrel. The barrel port looks to be a little more efficient as well. We will see.Looks great. You think you'll gain some FPS?
Done by a 72 year old machinist who makes a lot of barrels for other platforms. So I guess he isn't a gunsmith but just more of a machinist. As far as the shroud I am going "shroud less". So the stock shroud is 25mm in diameter. The barrel is 1/2" OD. So I am going to epoxy successively larger tubes of carbon fiber together over the barrel to the 25mm mark so I can still use my barrel band.. that is why I had him thread the actual barrel for a moderator instead of using the Donny FL adapter that I have. There will basically be 11mm of carbon fiber/epoxy encompassing the barrel for ridiculous rigidity. It will essentially be a carbon fiber bull barrel, haha. Yes I know this is excessive and ridiculous for a $300 gun but it's fun. Maybe I will find something in the process. Was this done by a gunsmith or regular machine shop?
What are your plans for a shroud?
Big and as fast as it will possibly shoot lol. The gun before would do 80+ FPE with stock barrel and 43.2 grain Seneca pellets. Would do over 70 FPE with jsb 33.95's. however it didn't shoot slugs well at all. I'm hoping the TJ barrel will shoot pellets good but also have a few favorite slugs. Would like to produce 75+ FPE with slugs if possible.Looks awesome. What is your target weight and speed?
I have. From my experience taking gun apart it will suck to get to and nobody makes parts for it. The stock spring is actually really stout. Not sure on the actual hammer weight though. The easiest way to adjust more power from the valve is by using a lighter valve return spring. I do have a lighter one in there and I have a couple lighter ones as well. I did have one that was pretty light at one point but the gun seemed more inconsistent so I put a slightly heavier spring in which made overall less power but was much more consistent. I think now I am at the point where I would have to make custom parts for it to keep gaining power. But the point of the barrel was really to shoot slugs so hopefully I can get some time to shoot slugs soon.. but right now the jsb heavies at 1000 fps are nearly one hole at 30 yards. Impressive so far.193-200 bar. Have you tried a stronger hammer spring or adding a little hammer weight?
Yes had success with several slugs. It's all a balance of how much power you want to make vs which slug works best in your barrel.Did you get the success you were looking for with slugs?
