New 2240 Woes

So I received my new 2240 direct from crosman. Not that happy at all.
I'm only getting 20-24 shots before the power drops off sharp.
I'm getting only an average of 384fps and 32 ES with Swarm 10x
And 412fps and 47 ES with crosman super pell.
Accuracy is nothing to brag about either.
Is this normal?
Also wondering if it was a return because it has a small area with scratching and the Co2 plug cap was only turned in about 2 turns and box not closed all the way properly.

Ideas?

Shot count is on the low side but it is highly dependent on both temperature and manufacturing variables. Pretty much always going to have to do some tweaking of hammer spring tension to improve shot count, or better still, make an SSG for it.

Regarding accuracy, please advise on the distances you’re shooting, average size of 5-shot groups, and whether stock open sights or aftermarket. Otherwise my first instinct is to say try some pellets from JSB / FX / Air Arms, AEA, JTS, or H&N. Gamo and Crosman pellets should group acceptably at short distances (10 yards) but sometimes not.

And if you’re up to it, inspect the barrel for defects. My experience with Crosman barrels has been pretty spotty over the years.

In the end it's a 2240, it's going to be weak, but i love them. A hammer debounce device from aoa can help on the shot count, noise and even accuracy. I have a few different brands and styles of pellets but every single time on any of my 5 crosmans, they prefer crosman pellets....go figure. The most energy I ever got a 2240 to make was 16fpe on hpa. It was running a 16 inch barrel, boss bulk full valve, aoa hammer debounce device, big transfer, 900 psi and cphp. It's accurate tho.

You are definitely getting a low shot count. I normally get about 40 shots before power starts dropping off.
Accuracy has been excellent with the factory barrel. With the red dot sight my 2240 will shoot as close as I can hold.

My 2240 is an older made in USA gun. If you can't work out the problems with yours I would suggest trying to find an older used made in USA 2240. I've been hearing that the new made in China ones are not up to the same standards and been having problems with quality control.

Which is what we all expected and feared when the acquisition with gamo happened.

BOX they come in a box, they have always come in a welded plastic container
these are now made in China and i have some bad about them
so i would only run RWS Hobby at 11.9gr and that should up the FPS
now the barrel on these has always been too short at 7.5 inch and a 10 inch would be better
barrels
all barrels i have seen coming out of China are filthy so a cleaning would be in order
wild pellets
first place i would look is the crown now USA made barrel have had a good reputation so a quick look would be in order
hammer spring
could that also be a problem, i would say yes and why i say that this for the most part is a whole new gun
too strong of hammer spring would do you no good an adjuster would help
is, was a 2240 a perfect pistol and that answer was NO it was and still is a tinkerers pistol
out of the box side by side the Diana Chaser is a far better pistol and if Crosman wants to keep there best sell pistol that they better get this fixed

my thought on the matter is send it back because you bought what you thought was going to be a ready to shoot pistol and not a tinkerers surprise
now don't get me wrong i own about 11 Crosman based pistols and only 7 Chaser

I'd send it back. Something is messed up. That shot count is low compared to my stock two year old 2240 and Diana Chaser. Both of those get 40+ decent shots. I'm also getting 500 fps with 11.9 RWS Hobby. Put the $ in a Diana Chaser if you really need a cheap Co2 gun. The 2240 in stock form is a plinker and not much more. The Chaser in carbine form really amps up the game in velocity and accuracy.

I just got a refurbished 2240 locally and it had a gas leak but that was a 15 minute repair from the shop that sold it to me. It seems to shoot well but I need to put a red dot on or some white paint on the front site so it’s easier to aim accurately. 40 shots seems about right and shooting across a pond this morning I was getting 75 yards or better from 13 gr. pellets. Not a competition gun but so far I’m glad I bought it.

Your results are to be expected with the ammo you're using, too fast shot cadence, and unfamiliarity with 2240s and Co2 properties.

Shoot JSB domed pellets of 14.3 or 15.9 grains at slower cadence, and don't expect Euro quality from a sub-$100 pistol. The performance may well exceed the capabilities of the shooter.
