Need to hear from folks who bought $179 to $249 rifle/scope packages

Hey folks,

Looking for input on scope performance and longevity from anyone who has purchased one of those $179 to $249 rifle/scope packages from their neighborhood sporting goods store. A friend is asking and I have no experience to share.

No need to discuss clarity or brightness here, he'll be able to see what he's getting. Do those scopes hold zero and last on those claimed 1,000 fps. spring guns they typically come on?

All good luck and bad luck stories appreciated.

He'll probably be shooting it quite a bit.

Never had one last long. Just tell him to assume it didn't come with a scope and if he gets a few months out of it, be happy. My last combo was a Hatsan 95 and that scope rattled straight from the box. No idea if it worked because I tossed it on my 50yd line and put a pellet through the glass with my Dreamline. Prior to that I had two Gamos with their 3-9x. The first one the reticle canted 45° on shot ~5. The second made it a month or two before I started having massive POI changes. I also have a Ruger Air Hawk that came with a fixed 4x. That one is suprisingly still going but probably only has 200 shots through it because the gun broke pretty much immediately and I haven't had the time to tear it down and see whats going on.

Unless he can take the scope outside, he might not actually be able to see what hes getting. Looking across the store indoors will not give you a good idea of image quality. But as to the scopes themselves I havent had much luck with them. I tried a few combo scopes and all failed at some point. If I were you I would advise him to spend the money on a known quality scope online. And when it comes to springers/piston rifles they can be brutal on scopes. The $20 Centerpoint that came with my little Crossman didnt even last a tin of pellets and its only a ~12ft-lb rifle.

The CenterPoint 3-9x40AO that came on my 2018 Benjamin Trail NP XL .22 has good optics AND longevity, was so impressed I replaced the 4x32 CenterPoint cheapo on my Crosman F4 with a barely used one from eBay. WM

Yeah CenterPoint does make some decent scopes in their line up, but not the ones Ive had. But I dont know anyone that would expect more out of a $70 rifle/scope combo lol. I have a little Nikon on it now and its lots of fun to shoot.
