Need some help

My BIL is looking for an airgun for dispatching raccoons that he traps at his house. He's not looking to get a ton of money into one for basically point blank shooting. But does want something with plenty of power and not loud to take them out. PCP wise I can help easy but springer/gas ram guns I can use some help with some recommendations.

If that’s THE only use, I reckon a .25 Hatsan will do. Even a used one.

I had good luck with the hatsan MOD in .30 the break barrel . Gets 30fpe taking vermin out in a trap was perfect. Can be had under 200 from time to time and at point blank the hatsan pellets are cheep enough and won’t really need better than 3 paces accuracy. I kinda miss mine. Right now in synthetic it 190 at midway.

A 22cal rimfire like a Henry or Ruger 10-22 using 22 caliber sub-sonic ammo should do the trick then.

Common trappers coup de grace weapon is a .22 rimfire pistol. Subsonic ammo works well in the revolvers.

Any decent powered .22 air rifle will work at point blank.

My Henry.22 pump action with .22 shorts is quieter than a springer.

Power to kill coons and quiet aren't bed fellows. The .22 recommendations above are solid, lighter, and a lot easier to use. Go that route.
I'd use my Ruger Lite with a Dead Air Mask, dead silent first shot with sub sonic long rifles.

While I do agree a .22lr would be nice, he can't shoot a firearm where he lives. These are nuisance raccoons at his house.

Point blank shooting? My recommendation would be to check out a Crosman 1322 Pellet Pistol. Plus it is relatively inexpensive but upgradeable.

Not to go too far on PB topic trajectory, my experience is the only 22LR cartidges (from a rifle) that are airgun quiet are the CB Longs and CB shorts (28gr at 720 fps).

If they’re trapped it’s a matter of shooting them down thru the top of the head. 22LR is a bit much I dented the paddle on my trap that way. A .25 springer shooting a metal mag type pellet should be ideal.
