Need scope ( preferably) or other sight for shots at 10 yards

I need a scope that will focus to 10 yards, or less would be even better. I have coons that occasionally get in my garage and the scope I have now is just about useless at such close range, when I have them out side up the trees or on roof then it’s great. I would like one with like 2-12 power. Focuses close, and lighted reticule. Will probably never shoot more the 100 yards, heck most likely never more then 50 yards. Would love to have a night vision scope but I just don’t know enough about them. ( any recommendations I will gladly research) As 90+%f my shooting will be in the middle of the night.

Depends on budget may range from $75.00 to $3200.00 for a scope that's a 2-12 or a 3-9x for the cheapie $75.00 pretty crappy scope (IMHO) but 3 yard focus. 2-12 is already going to be expensive even the Chinese scopes.

Would like to keep it around ,under 400.00 if possible. Does not need to be 2-12 but something in lower magnification.

I usually don't push for Athlon but I can't find its cheaper half priced twin under a different brand label so buy from (EBay with free shipping and free returns) if it's too crappy for YOUR eyes. Its kinda expensive for a 1" tube Chinese scope but here it is.

These should be clearer. Lots of happy campers including myself.

I would suggest this but it's significantly bigger and tougher and heavier that you may not desire but the glass on this one is the clearest. But I like buying scopes that have generic labels that are the same as name brand popular Well known brands costing 2x-4x so it's like doubling to quadrupling your value and I am critical about clarity too.

There's others that can suggest other brand and model scopes that are worth exactly the dollar you pay or often not worth the money but I look for best clarity as my number one priority regardless of price. There are many scopes that others stated were clear throughout its entire zoom All the way till their max and when I bought them they were not.

I suggest you buy several at once and return the ones that your eyes don't like and keep just one or 2.

I returned over 60 scopes already because I simply.can't tolerate bluriness. I may be too overly critical about clarity because I just bought a $3200.00 scope to compare these to. The blurry ones will never get my recommendation no matter how popular Or well known the brand.

Yo's suggestions sound real good (just be sure you're comfortable with the grid style reticle on the Discovery VT-3 3-12x44 SFIR FFP).



I'll attach my Scope Specs Table — the one for short scopes and 3-9x (3-12x) mangification. Which scopes have illumination is clearly marked.

To see anything you'd want clear glass (Discovery and Vector deliver) and a large objective lens (44mm or 50mm).

I wished I'd know more about NV — as it fascinates me! 

But my $$ are quite limited so that NV is on my Dream List* of things to buy in the future.

*Dream List as in: "Dream on, man!! 500 dollars to kill a few pesky rats?! You have more scopes than guns — NOT in your dreams you're buying another scope!"



All I can tell you from a quick read: The FoV (field of view) seems rather narrow, the reviewer* said the FoV at 4x magnification is comparable to a regular scope at 7x magnification. And I'd consider that VERY NARROW for short range shooting, especially for rapid target acquisition — in the dark — at very short ranges!

As you see on my Scope Specs Table I have color-coded the FoV of each scope, indicating what I consider a wide and a narrow FoV for close range hunting.

I have a Discovery VT-2 4-16x50 scope. While I wouldn't recommend that one for your needs, I can vouch that it works very well in low-light situations. There has also been a couple of situations where a pest has been just a few yards away, too close to clearly focus, but even though it's blurry I can see it well enough to aim at the head & take out the pest.

Bushnell Nitros are on clearance at Midway USA and Basspro shops. Theyre about 40% off atm and around $199-$300. I got a 6-24x50 and am very happy with it so far. Haven't checked their stock again but last time they still had most the models left.

UTG makes scopes that focus down to 3 yards but I don't know if any of those models have an illuminated reticle. I think their illuminated models focus down to 10 yards at least, however.

Well above your budget and doesn't go down to 2x but the Dedal Stalker has an illuminated reticle and focuses down to 4m. I have three scopes that focus below 10 yards but even at their respective 3x and 4.5x low power I'd prefer to use the Dedal to take out a raccoon in my garage. 

I have zero experience with night vision.

I used to do leupold scopes exclusively...now I am a Leapers man all the way. I have the Bugbuster and it is an awesome scope. You can get a really nice little setup without spending $700

If you want something extremely good, Aimpoint PRO or Trijicon MRO. These two are going to retail a little over your stated budget but not by much. Either one can easily be found just under $500. If you want to save a little money and still get a red dot that’s very good, look at the Vortex Crossfire or the Sig Romeo 5. Both of these can be found around $150 and is what I would recommend for you. The first two choices are probably overkill for what you are looking to do and I don’t see the need to spend that much on a red dot unless it’s going on a SHTF rifle. My personal choice between the last two is the Vortex and that’s only because of Vortex’s lifetime warranty versus the 5 year warranty that Sig gives. There are other options priced a little more but honestly I don’t feel the value is there by spending more than you would pay for the Vortex or Sig. In case you haven’t used a red dot before, you keep both eyes open when using so it’s a little different than a scope and much faster to get on target and for follow up shots. For what you are doing, I don’t think a scope is going to work as well as a red dot. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be glad to assist.
