Tuning Need PCP Tuning Advice

FPS - not sure but I assume 900+/- is the sweet spot. Probably between 850 and 950. Can adjust hammer spring on all three, one has no regulator, the Marauder has a non- adjustable regulator. I do have a chrony. All three are different. Really looking for what to do 1st, 2nd. 3rd, etc.

On a none regulated pcp all u can do for shot string is figure out the plateau (string of shots with the best ES)and only shoot it in that range. As u adjust the HS it will move around some.

on the regulated none adjustable, u can adjust the HS till u find the FPS ur looking for.

There’s a ton of things u can’t do to tune these rifles better….but without machine work it’s difficult.

After it is clean adjust your reg to near where you want it and set your hammer spring on max to get a velocity just above 830-860 + or - a little. Then turn your hammer spring adjuster out until you are in the correct fps range and getting good groups. Try different pellets using the same technique until you are shooting in the nirvana area. ;^).

I try to find a happy balance in the hammer and the valve's relationship. This can be tricky on an unregulated gun, and a bit easier with regulated.

But I should note that if your transfer, barrel, or probe ports are inadequate or miss-aligned, you will be leaving a lot on the table in regards to potential power output. If your ports are too big l, your efficiency and power might suffer as well. So, checking, fixing, optimized ports is the first thing I do. Sometimes all I end up doing is radiusing the 90 degree turn into the barrel.

A quick, quiet, smooth shot cycle and subdued report is indicative of a balanced setup.

The way that I find this sweet spot is by simply making some rough regulator pressure adjustments, checking power output on a chronograph, then dialing in on where power start to really drop off in reguards to regulator pressure. Then repeat the same process but with hammer weight, spring tension, or both. Adjust a few percent below peak in all instances. Then shoot several shots, and test on targets to verify the tune is good. Tuned pcps a lot of times will have a very crisp, brief, and muted report. So you can also listen to the gun as well, and kind of be able to audibly confirm that it is operating the way you'd like.

From here, I'll go into trigger adjustments and cleaning up everything else on the gun.

Here are links to 2 Hard Air Magazine articles that I found helpful.

Although they did require a good bit of re-reading for my ancient brain to follow the text & charts

They were written a few years ago by Bob Stern of GTA Bob & Lloyds Workshop, and are part of a complete series on the PCP that he did for the magazine

Perhaps they will help you
