Need help with trail cam!

So it’s not really hunting related, but I live on a private road, and someone has been taking mail from my mailbox at the end of my road. Multiple neighbors have been hit.
It’s too far away for a wifi camera, so I was thinking of putting a trail cam there, and hopefully getting something that when I pass it, I could download or view the footage from my phone.
Does such a think exists? And do they cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, there are trailcams that use cell service to send pics to your phone. As far as cost I can't tell you since it's been awhile since I last looked. A quick look at Cabela's site should give you a cost range.

Based on your requirements, any trail cam would work. They use SD cards. For the absolutely cheapest way, you can stop by and just swap out SD cards and view the pics when you get inside on your computer. Or if you have an SD reader that connects to your phone, you could view them at the camera. You can get them for as low as $30-35 on sale.

Some have screens on them, and you can scroll through them at the camera. I never use that feature, and they are more expensive.

I just take my SD cards with me and swap them out and look at the full ones when I get home.

I use the Magic Eagle trail camera for similar reasons—had someone snooping around our shed. It’s a non-cellular camera, so no WiFi or data needed. It saves everything to an SD card, and can review the footage by pulling the card or connecting it via USB. It doesn’t connect directly to phone, but it’s super reliable and doesn’t cost a fortune.

Stealing mail is a federal offense, so call the Alphabet org. The local cops might not care, but the Alphabet org might. Or the thought of the Alphabet org running around in their neighborhood might wake the local cops up. We had a rash of burglaries in my neighborhood, and AFAICT the cops never did catch who did it. A couple of years later and we started having a rash of mail theft. That got their attention. They caught those folks in a couple of weeks, mostly by working from the banks and credit card companies back to us.
