Hello,
first of all im new to this forum and to airgun hunting so please excuse me if I make some mistakes. :p
I got a little question, I wanna get a PCP Pistol soon and im not sure about what caliber to get yet so I hope you guys can help me there a little bit. I'm thinking to get the Webly Alecto/ Zoraki HP 01 Ultra. Two calibers are avilivle .177 and .22 caliber. It should serve for two diffrent purposes first is some target shooting/plinking and second I wanna hunt a little bit with it. Actually im only thinking of Crows and maybe Pigeons. I dont know if this is realistic with a Pistol but I was thinking about shooting at a max. Distance of 35 yards. In .177 caliber it can reach about 10 ft.lb and in .22 its about 11-12 ft.lb of energy. Basicly I think I can forget taking Headshots at such birds with an Airpistol. So ill go for chest shots to get a human kill. I guess ill get some sort of optic on it with iron sights a good hit will be very hard at such distances I think. Now the Question is what caliber to get ill shot at unknown ranges from maybe 10-35 yards .177 will clearly have less drop than .22 but .22 will deliver more raw energy in the target. Im thinking to get the .22 one but I dont know if it is possible to compensate the dropoff of the .22 with lets say a reddot. What do you guys think is best to get the job done?

DarkiYou mean something like a Crosman Benjamin Marauder? Well if so this Pistol would not be much stronger than the fully powerd Alecto I think. Its pretty expensive too I think. + I like the multi pump system of the alecto cause I dont need any Aircylinder or something.

I thought you were looking at pcp pistols. I see now that is a pumper. Your original post said pcp. I think the pistol you are looking at would do everything you want except the crows.....unless you hit the crow in the head at the distances you speak of.

35 yards would be pushing it with a Marauder pistol in terms of repeatable accuracy (like you would need to take head shots). I doubt most people would be able to hit their target reliably with a multi-pump pistol at that distance.

I don't know anything about that gun but if available, I would make sure you use a carbine stock and get a scope. Then practice to see your max distance you can be accurate at before using it on anything living.

The Marauder pistol comes with a carbine stock so you can at least get a little bit of stability when aiming.

Unless you do some tuning and find the right pellet for a stock prod. At 35 yards with a clean kill is going to be hit and miss. I got so fustrated with mine after going through at lease a dozen different pellets and hours of tuning. It got better but not to my expectations. After replacing the barrel with a 15" MM TJ HF barrel, transfer port and valve work, stronger spring, and tuning. 35-40 yards for clean kill is easy if you do your part in carbine form.

Yeah sorry dont meant PCP I was taking about multi pump. Well 35 yards is pretty unrealistic. But I guess 20 yards would be possible with some practise. I wont shoot if im not sure I can hit. I will get a 2x Pistol Scope on it that because with iron sights it will be impossible. I mean it got about 12 ft lb energy in .22 cal it should take a Crow with a chest shot at 20 yards at most than. There videos on youtube where some guys shooting 50 yards with a 12 ft lb Rifle and get a oneshot kill on crows. But well its a rifle...

I just got the Zoraki HP-01 Ultra in .22 cal
I have not shot it yet but im planing on doing that today but I got it with hunting pigeons in mind.
And I agree the grip is bigger than I would like but I can still get my hand on it.
I'm planing on putting a 3-9 bugbuster scope on it.
Mine was just bought brand new but must be a Mk.2 version not the newest Mk.3 version with a threaded barrel for adding a Suppressor.

I do think 35yds would be pushing it, 20 I think is a good max but I could be wrong as I haven't shot mine yet.

I think to do what you want with a "pistol" it's going to have to be a Marauder pistol or a 1720T.

Marauder pistol barrels seem to be hit or miss. The 1720T (.177 version of the Marauder pistol, but without magazine) has a Walther barrel. That won't be hit or miss. But you'll need to tune it slightly for more power. At 12-15 FPE, I think you'd be good on pigeons at 35 yards, but crows are bigger and tougher, esp. if you hit the wing joint.

As said earlier, plan on getting the detachable stock and a scope; at least of at least 6X power.

I had a 1701P before, which is a stripped-down, un-silenced 1720T. Killed a squirrel at 10 yards with a good brain shot. It is smaller than the 1720, but LOUD.

You won't hit a bird very often at 35 yards without a shoulder stock or a great rest. Best bet would be a less expensive pistol for target shooting and plinking, and a decent rifle later for hunting.

Yes, H&N Green pellets are made of tin. They're harder than lead, provide excellent penetration and attain higher speeds (FPS). I sighted in at 27ft. Holdover and holdunder is not an issue unless your shooting at steep angles. While shooting chipmunks and mice in the garage at about 12-15ft, I aim at their feet when their on the ground. This is done to compensate for the steep angle of the shot because I am standing. If they're running along the top of the foundation which is 4ft high, I simply aim for a heart/lung shot. Experience is the only way you can learn precisely where to aim. In regards to ft/lbs, the gun automatically bleeds off excess pressure and is designed for approximately 7ft/lbs.
