Need help choosing a springer

I would highly recommend a FWB300s. Probably the most accurate indoor and outdoor out to 30 yards up to 50 yards "springer" and nearly effortless to cock and shoot all day and all night long and very very quiet with very similar or slightly more power compared to the HW30s which is a good recommendation as well but im recommending a proven World Class Olympic match rifle of yesteryear if you are into hair splitting pellet on pellet accuracy there is no comparison when it comes to a keeper springer on a $500 budget. You simply won't believe how accurate it is once you shoot one. YO!

I agree.....We need more info.....Budget? Backyard plinking or hunting? How much yard do you have available? Underlever or break-barrel preference??

I have a Weihrauch HW98 .22 and my dad has a HW97KT .22

As mentioned, Walther LGV or LGU are awesome, the Weihrauchs (of course), Diana (T06 trigger awesome), and the Air Arms TX200.

Sounds like all you'll need is .177cal......

Had I known then what I know now.....Would've purchased the HW98 in .177cal instead of .22.....Doh!

Hope this helps!

HW50s. Can be had new for about $320 last time I looked. Discussion on another forum says that AOA is ordering a handful of them in .20 for about $360 if I remember right (in case the ole .20 interests you). Mine is a .177 and does about 730fps with 7.87gr JSB. Very smooth shooter. Quick firing cycle so it's not very hold sensitive.

Mine won the spot in my gun safe after trying multiple other springers, some 2 or 3 times as much money. They do 10-12fpe, which fits nicely into that in-between status of energy output. They fit into an in-between status as far as size too. Not too heavy/long, but not so small that they feel like a youth gun.

I like it enough that I'm currently trying to make a stock as a practice run on some cheap lumber. If it goes well, it'll likely eventually get a laminate stock.

You can ask well respected and loved Cyclops Joe Wayne Rhea here who swears by his FWB300s. I think he did a 20 or 30 shot group at 38 yards in ONE HOLE with his on video. Buy one only if you're into the ultimate in keyhole accuracy with boring regularity. Otherwise any sporter series by HW would be just fine for general plinking and informal targets to hunting. I mention the FWB300s since you mention you want to shoot indoors too. I can shoot mine at 3am in the house and all who's sleeping can't hear me shooting it. YO!

Post a wanted ad for a FWB300s but if you are only plinking informal target shooting you don't know what you're missing. I can hit baby aspirin tablets at 30 yards all day long without missing and flies too put some fish or meat to attract them. Some shooting buddies told me no fair the gun is too boring how accurate it can't miss. They go for $450-$600 used depending on condition. You want to buy one that's been recently serviced with new blue color breech seal at least. YO!

I have a 300 FWB and a 30HW Different guns entirely. If you are starting out buy the HW30 because they can be had new at very reasonable prices . The HW97 is a great gun as well BUT it’s pretty heavy and large. Shoots harder and further but recoils and is more than it sounds to me you need.

If you shoot only indoors then a good used 300 FWB would be a slightly better choice . BUT they are going to be more money .

I’d strongly recommend starting any new air gunner with the HW30. Lots sold and you all most never see a used one for sale on the classifieds.
AOA sells the urban pro. Gun scope mounts ready to shoot. Buy one no regrets

I have owned just about every HW springer produced. Im a collector. I buy to have and don't sell. I like to try out everything. They are fun and accurate guns no doubt but they are sporter class guns even my HW55s I consider sporter type guns. Some but not all may improve with a tune kit such as a Vortek which I have in an R7 and 2 HW30s and couple of my HW77s and 97s. They still recoil and that is what separates them from the FWB300s which is recoilless thus enabling the shooters to easily hit their intended targets consistently with little effort with such precision. I can't just grab my HWs all the time and just hit targets. I have off days and when you're off you're off. Then I grab my 300s and all is good in the world again. YO!

Are you hoping to do the type of shooting with the airgun that you would be otherwise be doing with your .22? If so, what kind of shooting do you enjoy? The FWB 300s is a terrific gun, have had mine for 35 years, but it is heavy at 10+ pounds without scope. You would either have to shoot it from some kind of supported position, or learn how to handle the weight. I use mine for 10 meter shooting indoors primarily, but occasionally put on a scope and shoot it off a bench or bipod outdoors, and have even used it to eliminate sparrows from my bluebird boxes.

For general casual target shooting indoors or out, the HW50s is a good suggestion. The power is plenty for target shooting out to 50 yards, it is not overly heavy, and it is quiet enough not to be a problem indoors. Like all the HWs, it is a quality gun that will last multiple lifetimes.

HW50s vs HW95/Beeman R9. The HW50s is next step up from the HW30s to a medium power but I would choose the HW30s over the 50s due to ease of cocking when shooting or plinking all day long and the loudness it's significantly louder than the30s I have a HW silencer on mine too and it's still louder than my unsilenced HW30s and R7. I wouldn't shoot the 50s indoors. The R9-HW95 I don't shoot mine at all it's close in power to my HW77s and 97s and would grab either of those instead they seem more accurate and easier too shoot to me. I would most definitely NEVER shoot the R9 in the house and it's the loudest of these mentioned. I have a cheap Chinese clone of the R9 a B26 and it's tuned that I prefer to shoot over the R9-HW95. It's a personal preference that's all and it's got a thumhole stock. IMHO tho HW30s is the most pleasant to shoot accurately compared to the HWs mentioned including the tuned Chinese clone. Shooter fatigue will set in rather quickly shooting the 50s and 95-R9 if you plan on shooting it all day long. The FWB300s can be cocked with one finger FYI... YO!
