NAC new targets and first practice card

Today I had the chance to test the new targets being used for NAC. They changed the paper the be more resiliant to moisture, and are using yellow bulls instead of blue.

After some sight in I started plugging along, interested more in the targets visibility, how it cut, and how well it took a plug. After some sighters I took my 25 shots. I will say the new cards cut well, and are much more visible at range. I'm happy with my score of 199 3x, and even more pleased with the card.

I used an FX Dynamix, .25cal 600mm, 34g FX pellets at apx 950fps. The scooe is a Sightron SVIII 5-40x56 shot at 35x.

This weeks practice session went well. I'm getting used the new Hogue grip and trigger adjustments. The wind was a bear though. Switching left to right and back. When it wasn't shifting headwinds were present. I'm still having trouble figuring those out. Regardless, lessons were learned and info logged.

Another set of cards from Sunday. Winds were 15-25 in every direction. The first card is a 203 3x without mulligan(freaky wind switch threw it off target, completely). With the mulligan it scored 213 3x. Next card a 207 3x. I've also added cleaning and weight sorting to that session. This week I'll put a roll test unit together and see if that adds a few points.

At what distance do you shoot? And what does NAC stand for?

Just know that at the benchrest location at NAC the winds are a PAIN! Even with flags at 15 yard internals it was extremely difficult. The flags would all be pointing in different directions. The best hope is to get a lane on either end. The middle lanes are aweful!

Even the best tuned gun it takes an extremely good shooter to hit consistently. It can be done, just learn the wind and be able to adjust on the fly. And use all the time allowed!!

what size are these targets , .25 holes look very small in the pictures

Where did you get your targets?
I have some backordered from New England Air, but it is taking months to get.
I asked a friend ,ThomasT, to make up a target for 100yards...looks great
Keep it up!
Mike
I use North East Airguns. They put on the event. The grey/blue targets are from last year and will be switched to yellow. Hit's in the 8 and 10 ring are more visible with this format.

I shot at a different range yesterday, without wind flags and it did not go well. I felt so deflated, I took out my CZ 457 to reflate my confidence.

What A guessing game it must have been without flags
My day was trying the Grands at 100 at different speeds…results were not bad, but far from competition standards.
Back to the range again tomorrow for more speed tests.
100 yards is not easy and you are doing well…keep up the practice

The targets last year were hard to see hits! I ended up marking on a grid paper my shots. So when I changed magazines or aired up I knew what target to shoot. There were more than a few people that double, triple, or even quadruple shot a scoring bull!
i see what you mean...if i take a quick glance at the blue targets...they look untouched if the shot hit in the blue. A bulls-eye is nearly indistinguishable from an fresh target. From the past videos, the event was usually overcasted or worse limiting your light. Wise move making the grid.
Glad they made the change

Right in Mike. I've haven't gotten into my slugs yet for this gun. It shoots pellets too well.

I've haven't left this thread behind. I've been busy re-tuning my Dynamic. Knowing the reg would fail I ordered a Huma as an insurance policy. It was a good call. Two days after shipping the factory reg started creeping. Two days later my new reg arrived and installing it was a breeze. After some shooting putting a 150 rounds thought it to settle the reg I started tuning. One revelation I came to is that I bought a slug gun. It has a slug liner, came with the carbon fiber tube, and while I haven't taken it out, maybe the heavy hammer. My suspicion about the hammer is because it's sitting at 115Bar shooting 34g pellets at 885. 600mm barrel btw. the extreme spread it 10, standard deviation of 3 or so after 60 rounds.

I did take it out to the range during the eclipse yesterday with next to no wind. A great day to test pellets. I brought 3 different head sizes and a tin of unsorted pellets as a control. The control card was a 200. The sorted rounds were a 200 2x, 200 1x, and 189 1x. Had I not been able to watch every pellet moving down range the outer ring hits would have been a mystery. %95 of the outer ring hits were spiraling pellets. Which tells me roll testing to sort out the odd shaped , skirt damaged and out of round pellets will be necessary. I'm also going to test some other brands this week to see if anything else can be as accurate. As an aside, the "good" pellets stayed in the 8 ring or tighter, the spiraling pellets live in the 5 and 6 rings. Sometimes even landing on the white. I'm happy to have the time to work this out over the next few day's and I'll see everyone that's gong to NAC next week.

Hi, how do you like the ergonomics of the rear bottle as a stock?
