Results N50 Wed Results 5/24/23 Open Grove

Eight shooters showed up to compete, Dana from the Bay area, and Matt from Acton, both joined us with their Thomas Slug rifles, it was nice they were here.

A new shooter came to check it out and decided to shoot, Joe Silva is an army veteran and was a pleasure meeting and hope he will become a regular.

We missed Ed, Dan, and Song

Conditions for the first match were calm yet difficult to read. Second match well there was a whole lot of switches.

Congrats to Dennis for some great shooting, was happy he shot a 750 series.

Keith again missed the little changes but still shot well.

Lou had trouble in the first match, ammo problems but got it all sorted out for the second match. He just needs to check his target afterwards to see if all the bulls have a hole. Still was very happy with his results.

Joe Silva had a good time especially when he shot some Lapua through his rifle for the second match for his 1st try, 1st time 250, his scores improved greatly.

Overall another fine match with a great bunch of shooters, lucky to have them here.

New guy Joe S. shows us that you don't need much to shoot a 250 (2nd match). 75yo rifle, 20x scope, no flags, simple rest, narrow stock.

Here's a pro tip. Don't forget to shoot a bull.

I can relate too. A couple years ago I was using a FFP 6-24 scope with a thick reticle and large center dot. I shot a perfect X on an ARA target. Took my eyes out of the glass, loaded rifle and commenced to shoot the same bull again because my scope couldn't see the previous shot. That second shot in that square cost me 100 points. That was the last match for that scope.

We can all relate, unfortunately. 😀

I was shooting ARA at Joes using my Leupold Comp with the big “mildot” reticle. It just happened to be that the dot spacing was about the same as the bull spacing. I was jumping around from bull to sighter and got myself out of order. I left 2 bulls on a row unshot because it looked like they had shots in them from the big dots. 😀

Btw, those Remington 40X rim fires you and Joe are using, sure can shoot. What ammo do they like best?

My Annie 1907 shoots really well with RWS100 and RWS50. The 64 MPR likes CenterX, Lapua Long Range and Super Long Range, and Eley Tenex.
Been shooting Midas + Tommy, the stuff shoots really well except for the flier in each box,;) gave Lou the same lot for his 40x for the second match, he shot really well with it and likes it. I shot R50 from Dana's batch on the last card, rifle likes it better than the Midas so purchased some. Have to keep up with those good shooting Annies

Hypothetically, if I lived in California and reasonably close to your N50 range, I would try and participate in most/ all N50 matches. Same goes to Mike B (CC) if he lived close to my ‘make believe’ Ponderosa California home. Think of the things I could learn shooting with face to face interaction….😀😀😀

Never gonna happen I realize, because I have family and Grandkids close to NC. But, I do enjoy seeing the results, guns used, ammo, etc. I track all the N50, EBR, NAC, and RMAC events as well like many.

Joe, my 1907 loves the RWS50 and RWS100. Your Remington seems to like it also.

Thanks for the information.

Had a great time and was warmly welcomed at Open Grove.
Hard to believe I didn't know about a range and matches 1/2 hr from my house!
First timer in this venue. Took a card or two in order to figure out the basics of the game.
One correction on Lou's post, the Scope on my 52C is a 24x. its an M8 with a 1/4 min dot.
Gun really liked X-act.
Thanks all I will be back
