Mystery Pelican Case Part?

This came on the Pelican 1750 case that I recently purchased. It was clipped on the back hinge spanning the two halves. Anyone know the purpose of it?

Keeps the case from opening 180 degrees? Holds the top up off the table?

Nope on both of the above or at least not as far as I can tell.

I just got a 1750 last month and it never came with that.

False alarm. I emailed Pelican with a pic and they said it was a latch from another product and shouldn't have been included with my case. Probably just some dude at the factory havin' fun.

Ya, I thought it looked like a single throw latch.
