My New Crown

Just got my new Crown from Precision Wednesday, I wasn't sure what the Pepper laminate was going to look like up close but I really like it. I like the semi-gloss finish as well. I just had time to mount the scope using some Sport Match adjustable rings. Got home yesterday from work, pulled the barrel liner and gave it a good cleaning. It actually had quite a bit of lead specs on the first patch so apparently it had be tested with quite a few pellets. The regulator is set at 125bar according to the gauge but it could be off some. I'll have to check it soon. As set, it was shooting the 25.4's at 945fps and the Heavy MKII's at 825fps. I really want to shoot the Heavies so my plans are to increase the regulator around 140bar and see where that gets me. From that velocity I'll probably back off the HS adjuster one notch as uncle Ted advised and see how it does there.

Now the bad news..... I had just mounted the scope and then turned the gun over to look at the gauges and the cheek riser fell out and hit the cement floor dinging it on two edges. It was pushed all the way down when shipped so I had no idea that it was still loose enough to fall out. Almost made me cry, but a few bad words came out instead.. Anyway here are a couple of photos.

Beautiful looking gun. I got the green laminate. Sorry to hear about the ding. Let us know how the MKII work at 140 bar. Mine is at about 125 bar and I haven't touched it yet. I have shot really good groups at factory setting and haven't had a reason to move anything yet. I still have to take it out on a good day to test groups at 100 yards. I only have about 600 rnds through it. The groups seem to be getting better but that may be me getting more used to the gun.
Do you ever make it up to the NRA Whittington Center. I made it there once. That place was fantastic. We took my nephew there for a week stay. It was a course on wildlife and learning tracking (mostly elk) and other hunting skills.
Congrats on your purchase. Have fun

My bench was a little too cold and wet to shoot off of this morning so I up'd the regulator to 135 according the gauge and shot a couple of heavies through the chrony 670fps. Not enough HS tension for sure even on the Max setting. I then pulled the action out of the stock and adjusted the mechanism that increases the HS tension to Max when it says that it's on Max. Fired a couple of shots over the chrony and wah lah, 870fps. Kind of surprised by the velocity. I then changed the HS adjuster from the Max position to "5" and that reduced the velocity to 860fps. I'll shoot it there and see how it does. When I get a few days of shooting in I'm going to pull both gauges and check them for accuracy. I'm thinking with the increase I got at only 135bar that the gauge might be off. If its not I'll be tickled..

Centercut, as to your question, I still have and love my 25 Royale and can't see ever selling it. It's really accurate and I hope the Crown will be just as good of a shooter. I think I wanted the Crown for some of it's bells and whistle especially the adjustable regulator and HS. I don't know that I'll ever need to change the velocity adjuster off of high.

Both of my long FX's feel better to handle than the RAW that I had, to me anyway. Both are lighter than the RAW for sure, the Crown even more so.
Sound wise, the Crown with the shroud extended is quieter than the Royale and RAW. With the should collapsed it's definitely louder, I'd say about a 1/3 so collapsed it's about the same as the Royale and RAW, maybe a tad louder.

Thanks Ashes, that green is awesome looking too. No I've never been to the Whittington Center. I'd like to check it out one of these days though. A couple of my good friends have been there on a 22LR silhouette match and bragged on how nice the grounds and accommodations are.

If your dings in the riser is more like a dent you may be able to steam it out. This works best on wood that doesn’t have a sealed grain . Take a damp wash cloth put it over the dent and hit it with a hot iron . The steam will cause the fibers in the wood to expand. I’ve done this many times and it works . You may have to use some 0000 steel wool on the stock to remove old finish then you can use tru oil to refinish many YouTube videos on that process.

Congratulations Jimmy. I knocked off 2 starlings at 100y with mine just 10mins ago. You’ll have a lot of fun.
Ive left mine set up for the 25g jsb’s. Reg pressure just under 120bar setting B on the power wheel.
Shooting a bit slower than most at around 865fps.
The 25g really surprised me with there long range accuracy set up this way. Give it a try at some stage.
Keen to see your results with the Heavies.

Thanks guys, I had some doubts about the regulated pressure gauge since the gun seemed pretty capable of making good power at 135bar. I pulled the gauge today and checked it against my good test gauge which has .1% accuracy for that range. Fortunately it's right on the money at 150 and 130bar. The high pressure gauge is off about 5bar which I'd still call a keeper. If anyone would like me to check theirs just send it to me.

I set mine like yours JK and am getting the same velocity with the 34.9's. 25.4 at setting 4 910fps. Guess I am going to have to buy a light kit for the chrony. Have to put it out to far to see the reading at the range and the neighbors are to close at home so I only get a few readings. Question? Do these have some kind of restriction to air input? Mine fills slow compared to my Daystate and the foster it a bitch to get off!

Hi all

Interesting input from all. A thought. FX have changed the Crown since launch date around mid last year. Regulator , gauges, reg internals.
Comparing one gun bought say Sept 2017 with another December 2017 And again Jan 2018 yet again Feb/March 2018 is difficult and unscientific
My suggestion show gun number , if one is concerned showing full number simply x the last digit.
So all Crowns to date I have seen are in this category
FX Crown - no number shown , probably pre production/prototype
FX C 17500x very very early gun
FX C 1750xx low last two digits around Jul/August -lower digits Transfer port marked 1/2/3 higher digits TP marked .177-.22-.25-.30
FX C 176xxx later guns probably up to November/December
FX C. 180xxx 2018 gun
FX C. 1801xx Bought Feb/March 2018
Point of all this -making it easier for comparison - apples to apples etc.
Shame maker does not release build dates like Daystate does.

Nice thought but to be honest, I don't really see the benefit of it.
FX uses the principle of continuous improvement, so every batch could be a bit different.
Overall, the differences are not really shocking IMO.

For instance, a different way of marking a power adjuster wheel is not really exiting.
A changed BV washer stack can be retrofitted on all older Crowns as well.

If someone wants the latest greatest all the time, accept the fact that it is simply not possible. All products evolve and will eventually be replaced with something fancier or better.
Same goes for cellphones, cars etc. Luckily airguns don't evolve that fast ;)
If you want something, and you have the money, just buy it and don't look back :)

My opinion it is helpful. Yes guns evolve but some of these guns just do not perform as intended. Some people buy guns to tinker with. Others just to shoot. I do not expect to open the bonnet of my new MBenz and tinker with it. I believe once the maker signs off a model it should be fit for purpose.
Anyway people like comparing performance etc with their guns. Saves being disappointed in ones gun performance if theirs is a later model/improved.

Discussion ends on this as not my topic.
