This is my farthest kill with an air rifle to date. I'm here at my in-laws and decided to walk down to the end of field. As I was walking along a dirt road, I notice a jack jump out of the fence line. I went to the closest fence post and watched him run out into the open field. When he stopped, I quickly ranged him and got 108 yards. I looked at my holdover valves and noted I need to use the fourth mildot. The wind was blowing from my 2 o'clock at about 10 to 12 mph.
I could see him eating the grass; completely unaware I could still see him. I held about 1.5 mils in to the wind, slowed my breathing and held my breath at the end of breathing out. I slowly squeezed the trigger, keeping the gun a still as possible, and let the gun's firing of the pellet surprise me. I could see pellet hit just 6 inches to the left of the jack's head. The jack rabbit perked its head up wondering what just happened. I quickly reloaded another pellet and adjusted 6 more inches into the wind and shot another pellet. I could see the pellet arc in to the wind and fraction of a second later, I could hear a satisfactory thud. I quickly reload the matador and line up on for another shot but I realize I didn't need a follow up shot because I could see the jack rabbit doing the death dance.
I walked over to the jack rabbit and turned around to get an accurate distance which came out to 126 yards. My longest kill yet. I took a picture of where I rested the matador on wooden post. Those electric poles are a hundred yards apart.
I finished walking to the end of the circle and was able to get these two pdogs by surprise at 40 yards.
Of course one prairie dog sound the alarm and I wasn't able to make another shot. Most were only giving me head targets at a 100 to 150 yards and was't able to get any at these distances with the wind blowing. I went through four mags and head back to the house.
