My HW77 has gone green

Been having trouble of late getting my HW77 to group consistently. Tried three different head sizes in the H&N FTT and JSB Heavies. It seemed to like the 5.55 in the FTT but there would always be a few too many fliers for my liking. Did all the usual checks like screws, changed scope even put the sights back on ( wasn’t that a blast, talk about not being able to see the target) but still too many fliers.

I was just about to take it apart when I found a tin of H&N greens in the safe and thought why not. Talk about a transformation, ten shots in a raged hole about two pellets wide at 20 metres. I was stoked. So I’ll be useing the greens for a while. When I first bought the rifle it was very accurate useing FTT 5.50. When I brought my last lot of pellets I must have got several bad tins. My Trail and LGV don’t seem to mind them so I’ll use them up anyway.

Im going into town today to buy another tin of H&N’s to see if there is a difference.

My hatsan loves those greens (of course it loves one of the most expensive pellets) i recently revisted the lead ftt and found that they did better than I originally thought. A clean barrel likes the lead ftts. Dirty barrel likes the greens. I also did surprisingly well with the Barracuda matches and JSB exact rs. Such a huge range of weights.

I just returned from a trip to the gun shop in town. I bought a new tin of H&N FTT 5.50. I had already zeroed the scope in on the greens but put ten shots through with the new pellets. They grouped very well something similar to when I first bought the rifle. The tin on the left is one of the ones giving me trouble and on the right is the new tin. Seems like I had a couple of bad tins.

I don’t have a chronograph at the moment but......... the lead pellets at 14.66 gr are shooting two inches higher then the greens at 9.56 gr. The same thing was occurring with the JSB’s 18 gr they were shooting a couple of inches higher then the 14.66 gr. Does anyone know why, I would have thought that the heavier pellet would have a lower poi. Anyhow I’m sticking with the greens as they are more accurate then the lead for me.

In the diagram, the heavier bullet at 55 gr., is higher at 25 meters than the lightest bullets at 28 gr.

The bullets are all rising at 25 meters. Of course, in the diagram, the lightest bullet, the bullet with the greatest velocity has the superior range.

*My interpretation of your pellet performances is that the heavier pellets at 20 meters are higher because they reach their peak sooner than the lighter pellets because of their (the heavier pellets') shorter terminal range.

2many thanks for your thoughts on this. I see in the graph that each projectile has been individually zeroed at 50 and 100 yards. I can understand that the trajectory for each would be different due to weight and that at the specific distance they would meet. I am however unable to understand what is happening in my case. My rifle has only been zeroed for one pellet weight, the lightest but the heavier other two types of pellets have two distinct different poi’s based on their weight eg the heaviest pellet is the highest from the poa.

The only thing I think it could be is the fit of the lead pellets giving more compression, but I’m probably way off in my thought process.

Anyway the greens are still shooting the lights out over the lead ones.
