My First Post Retirement Schedule

Target Tuesdays and Target Thursdays is my first set in stone schedule since my retirement 3 weeks ago. Of course any day or time in between.

Here's my new range, 25, 40, 46 and 69 yards. Because I haven't shot yet I think I can post this in general discussion rather than Target shooting?

It's my back porch where I can shoot in any weather. Yes, TV for occasional viewing with an overhead propane heater. It's cold and wet here in Western WA. many days of the year.

Thick aluminum plates behind each targets, nobody lives in my old house, it's abandoned.

Looks like a nice set up. It’s always nice to be able to shoot from inside. And especially nice to have a shooting bench always set up.
Do you have any metal reactive targets ?
I usually have one paper/cardboard target at 20 yards. Just to verify my zero. Then I have metal reactive targets at 20 and 30 yards.

Congrats on the retirement, you're starting out better than I did - all I did was train MMA during the day, then hit the bars to get drunk and chase tail 6-7 days a week for my first 2 years of retirement. Then again I was in my 30's so ... just young and dumb.

Congratulations on retiring !!
Really like your set up. The only improvement I would make (in second photo) is get rid of the clock.
Your stomach will tell you when it’s time to eat.

Great setup! I envy the amount of space you have. I can only shoot to 35 yards in my yard and have to shoot from a side porch to shoot that far. The side porch is covered, however, which helps.

Some things to consider for future changes/upgrades. I have concrete walking squares at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and a brick post at 35 yards from my shooting bench. I have a portable stand for my pellet trap made mainly from a scrap 4x4 and an old brake rotor (on the bottom for stability). I move it from square to square. Lately it has been mostly at the 30 yard square because I've been shooting a lot of 30 yard challenge targets (thread is in the shooting challenges page). I also recommend adding some sort of metal swinging target. I have cheap SS spinners on the 4x4 that supports my pellet trap (Aliexpress) and a home made "know your limits" target with spinners from 2 inches down to 1/4 inch. Also a couple inexpensive multi-spinner targets, I think they were made from Crosman. I don't always want to hang a paper target but the spinners are always there ready for a shot.

I'll make a few changes to your suggestions...
I once quit a good job because my boss was...well...not acceptable to my terms. A few years later I found out that I'd be best suited back there. I called my ex boss and said if I left again he could use me for live target practice! He agreed and said he'd do just that. That's the job I just retired from.

Most still want to schedule and plan their days activities like they’re working.

After awhile it dawns on them that they can do what they want when they want.
My uncle told me once "It took me a year to wind down after I retired." That’s crazy talk imho.

I was self employed most of my working life so I simply switched to full time "weekend mode" and never looked back.
Retirement is liberating.
I still choose to work part-time as a superintendent but only for three or four months out of the year in winter for something to do and to fund my airgun needs.

Exactly!! retired now for 12 years , i have no idea exactly what or when i will do everything , but retirement still has things you have to do that get in the way of what you want to do . And you can fall into always "tomorrow i can do that" .

Exactly!! retired now for 12 years , i have no idea exactly what or when i will do everything , but retirement still has things you have to do that get in the way of what you want to do . And you can fall into always "tomorrow i can do that" .

Been retired for 10 years now. Refuse to have a set schedule for anything!!! My wife often asks me "what are you doing today?" and my answer is and always will be "what ever the F***k I want".

@JOERM Nice range! Where are the soup cans? Paper is fun but cans are a hoot! Hang a few cans up on strings and try and shoot them in half. The sound a pellet makes walloping a can is awesome!
