My first and only FX airgun

I traded a brand new S510 for an FX Verninator with my buddy Lee Chiu, he says he already misses it, sorry but it will be staying with me for at least a little while! I have only been able to shoot it at shorter distances because I have serious issues with my legs, even so you get an idea of how well a gun shoots when you shoot it without a proper rest and get one hole groups at 20 yards. The S510 was very accurate at 50 yards and I hope to be well enough to test the FX out to 50 yards very soon, I will then post an update on its accuracy. But so far there is nothing about the gun that I don't like, it is a really sweet gun, Neil.

Hey Scott the leg problem is not going away my friend, I have been told by top specialists at UCSF and Stanford that there is nothing they can do to help me, so pain pills seems to be my only form of relief. I sometimes wonder if they want to find a diagnosis, as it is I have plowed a small fortune into their experimental procedures and nothing has worked. Time to say enough and enjoy some of the money I earn instead of handing it all over to doctors. It sucks but that's life, good to see you here too bud, Neil.

Sorry to hear that Neil. Well, we all know if nothing else it will be quiet. Thats for sure. I cant wait to get that call from you to ship my stuff to you and get her back. Nice to see you in here. And please dont let that injury get the best of you. Every day something is learned from a failure. Dont get to attached to pk they will really mess you up bad...im praying for bro. Best regards, Steve

Hi Neil, I don't mean to hijack your thread but I read what you said regards your leg problems and I assume that this is a large part of the reason you don't shoot long distances too often due to walking back and forth.

I once read about someone who had a problem walking and they decided to get a remote controlled car that the somehow attached a target board to so that they could stay still and drive the car out to whatever distance suited them and still enjoy long range shooting.

All the best

"NeilClague"ahahah what a fantastic idea Ben, I also love messing with radio controlled helicopters, this would give me a good excuse to get a radio controlled truck to carry my targets out, great idea Ben, now I have to sell it to the wife, lol. Just kidding, she lets me have my toys and in turn she gets to buy whatever she wants. Neil.
I hope you manage to fabricate something that helps your shooting pleasure Neil! And you get a new toy too :p

I guess I got lucky, a buddy of mine posted it on the yellow, i saw it and e-mailed him since I am no longer allowed to participate on the yellow. I offered him a new S510 for it which he accepted. I love the action and everything about the gun. The unfortunate thing is the morons who handled it in shipping must have thrown the box around as the bottle cover had been rammed up against the breach so hard it broke part of the bottle cover off. It must have been some impact as I was unable to move the cover without loosening the set screw to re-position it. I guess when it starts to bug me I will just buy a new bottle cover for it, but for now it is fine as it is and is for sure a nice little air gun, Neil.

Those Verminators are great rifles and the action / cycling lever works quickly & smoothly if used correctly - it's best not to let the lever slam back under spring pressure but keep your finger(s) on it as it returns. I'm glad your liking the gun Neil :), I hope you find a long-term relief 'regime' for your legs, buddy.

Unfortunately this is one rifle that I find too short in the forearm for me (I'm tall with long arms). I imagine they are very easy to use in the seated position & the rear stock can be angled somewhat to provide good cheek weld.

The Mark I Vermy has the edge indexing 'simple' magazine which works well, if not mistreated, and are fairly low cost - they do have a tendancy to fly out of the breech when the stop pin is opened !

It is possible to buy replacement bottle covers / rear stocks, speak to AoA if it bothers you.

Hi all,

My name is Vernon, I'm awaiting delivery of my Verminator MKII with moderator and long barrel in .22 calibre. Once it arrives my next step is to get a bipod, since this is my first FX rifle can anyone fill me in on what all I will need to mount a bipod to my verminator. I would take recommendations on what bipod set up to use as well, I'm shopping on Amazon.

Thanks.

Thanks for the response BRS, no matter what air gun I use I always keep the cocking lever under control, I never let any lever snap back under tension, guess it just comes from the way I was taught to handle guns and tools when I was younger. The bottle cover is not really bothering me right now but I am sure if I ever part with the gun I will have to replace it. I know selling it with that part damaged would not be acceptable and is not something I would do. Thanks again for the response and pointer to where i can get a replacement, Neil.

Neil,
I am a PA currently in Korea. I had a patient two days ago with a rare lower leg issue. It started as intermittant, transient, lower extremity swelling and pain which would resolve in a few weeks then come back... after many previous months of this, we got a positive lab on Parvo Virus. This atypical presentation is very rare and not taught in med school... we are still looking into the matter. If you'd like, shoot me a synopsis of your signs and symptoms and I can see if this, or some of the other conditions I've seen, fit. Good luck and thank you for your contribution to the AG world!

Vernon,
It's unusual :) to fit a bipod to the Vermy but I do recall seeing various rigs like that.

There is some forestock (synthetic, of course) but its probably too close to the trigger and point of balance to be much use. Far better to use the FX 'Tube Clamp' accessory which can be fitted further forward (one guy made his own version which clamped onto the central 'end boss' of the airtube), the tube clamps work well (I have one on a FX SuperSwift) and allow both bipod or sling attachment.

All the Vermys I remember seeing used short legged BR style bipods and that's the way I would go - short, uncomplicated & lightweight (probably NOT the heavy duty 'mil-spec' type). I think a larger, heavier bipod would ruin the sheer pointability of this particular rifle.

Bipods are normally fitted so that the folded legs project forwards under the barrel (but I have seen them used the 'wrong way' round), depending on your intended use I would suggest 6" to 9" max leg length, the units with internal springs tend to be the lightest & are very neat.

I just talked to AOA yesterday about the bipod mount on Kip Perow's Verminator Mk2 that I noticed in his video. AOA will install a Picatinny rail under the forearm and claims it is secure. That's the Mk2 of course- don't know if the forearm design is the exact same or not on yours. I'm thinking ordering the Mk2 Extreme set, which is why I was asking. Should be an easy DIY also, if Picatinny is what you want/have. Sling stud should be just as easy.
